Sometimes. You can reopen an existing Roblox friend or group conversation, but Roblox says Experience chat ends when you leave the experience. Roblox does not promise a permanent transcript, a universal retention period, or a way to download or recover every chat.
Where to find existing Roblox chats
Roblox documents reopening existing friend and group conversations. The steps depend on your device:
On a phone or tablet
- From the Roblox home screen, select Chat at the bottom.
- Select an existing conversation to open it.
Some regions may still show Party during a label rollout; accounts for users under 9 continue to see Party, according to Roblox Support.
On a computer browser
- Select the gray chat box in the lower-right corner of the Roblox page.
- Choose the person or group, then open the conversation.
Can you see messages after leaving a Roblox game?
Do not expect to reopen the in-game chat as a full transcript. Roblox distinguishes Experience chat—communication between users in the same experience—from friend and group conversations. Its Experience Chat help page says: “Experience chat allows users to communicate with other users in the same experience and ends as soon as you leave that experience.” The reviewed official guidance does not provide a general way to recover that transcript afterward.

What Chat Summaries can—and cannot—tell you
Roblox describes Chat Summaries as a way to catch up on messages across age groups before and after an age check. They are automatically generated, can make mistakes, and vary by region. Roblox does not say that a summary is available for every conversation or that it is a complete, permanent transcript. Treat it as a catch-up aid, not an archive. Why Chat may be unavailable
Access can depend on age check, age group, communication and privacy settings, and region. Roblox currently states that users ages 5–9 need parental consent for Experience chat, and users under 16 need parental consent for Direct chat. Requirements can apply differently to different chat features; check the current account settings and Roblox’s chat guidance.

- Check whether the account has completed any required age check.
- Review privacy and communication settings to see whether the relevant feature is permitted.
- For a child’s account, ask a parent or guardian to review or manage the setting.
- Consider whether a regional restriction or interface-label rollout explains a missing option.
Are chats downloadable or recoverable?
Roblox’s privacy policy says chat messages may be processed for monitoring, filtering, and moderation, and that data may be used to respond to account requests. That describes how Roblox handles information; it does not establish a user-facing chat-history export or transcript-recovery service. Roblox’s friend-chat instructions explain how to reopen existing conversations but do not promise indefinite retention or specify how far back messages remain available. For eligible communication, filtered chat is the default. Roblox says filters block inappropriate content and personal information; messages containing profanity may be automatically rephrased. The text you see may therefore be filtered or reworded rather than exactly what the sender typed. Details are in Roblox’s Experience Chat article.
