Yes. Pokémon Support confirms that Pokémon with altered data have been deposited in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME. They may cause freezing or display problems, and Pokémon says it may restrict trading or suspend HOME users found using altered data. The official support pages do not provide a reliable way to determine whether an individual Pokémon is hacked.
What Pokémon Support confirms
Pokémon Support uses the term “altered data.” Its January 30, 2026 notice about mobile HOME freezing or display issues says Pokémon with altered data have been deposited in the app. This establishes that they can be present; it does not say how common they are or offer a universal technical definition of “hacked.”

The notice says altered-data Pokémon may cause freezing or display issues when viewing Pokémon details or using GTS or Wonder Box. These symptoms are possible, not inevitable, and the page does not establish that every freeze or display problem is caused by altered data. Pokémon Support also states: “We do not provide support on issues arising as a result of Pokémon with altered data.”
What can happen to a HOME user
In a separate January 30, 2026 policy notice, The Pokémon Company says it may take action against users found using altered data or engaging in troublesome behavior. Possible measures include restricting online play in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, restricting trading in mobile HOME, or suspending HOME on Switch and mobile. The notice says measures may be temporary or indefinite and are at the company’s discretion.

#1 Best Overall
This is a warning about possible enforcement, not a claim that every person who receives an altered Pokémon will automatically be penalized. The notice does not describe a guaranteed outcome for a particular trade or user.
A trade or compatibility check does not prove legitimacy
HOME offers several ways for Pokémon to move between users: Wonder Box, GTS, Room Trade, and Friend Trade. Wonder Box trades can complete while a user is away from the app; GTS matches a requested Pokémon with a trainer meeting the criteria; Room Trade enables group trading; and Friend Trade is for HOME friends. Creating a Room Trade room requires a paid Premium Plan, according to Pokémon Support’s mobile trading guide. None of these methods is described as a legitimacy check.
Likewise, the HOME feature for checking which games can receive a Pokémon only reports compatibility. Pokémon Support explains how to check it in its transfer-compatibility instructions; it does not identify compatibility as a hacked-Pokémon detector.
Rank #2
- The Pokémon TCG: Pokémon Day 2026 Collection includes 1 foil promo card featuring Pikachu with a Pokémon Day stamp.
- This also comes with 1 Pokémon coin.
- You will also receive 3 Pokémon TCG booster packs.
- Booster Packs May Vary from those pictured.
How to check which games a Pokémon can travel to
- In the mobile app: Open the Pokémon’s details and look for “Games it can travel to.”
- On Nintendo Switch: Select the Pokémon, choose “Check Summary,” then choose “Connected Games.”
This tells you about game compatibility, not whether the Pokémon’s data is legitimate.
HOME rules and tournament rules are different
Play! Pokémon’s VG Rules, Formats and Penalty Guidelines, dated August 31, 2024, prohibit externally modified Pokémon in a competitor’s Battle Team and allow disqualification even if the Pokémon was traded to that competitor. That is a tournament-participation rule; it should not be treated as a separate HOME-wide penalty policy.
Quick Recap
What to do if you are concerned
- If HOME freezes or displays Pokémon details incorrectly, note when it happens and contact Pokémon Support. Its notice says it does not support problems arising from Pokémon with altered data.
- Do not treat a Pokémon’s name, stats, moves, origin, ability to trade, or transfer compatibility as conclusive proof that it is legitimate. The cited official support pages do not give a reliable individual-Pokémon inspection test.
- If you participate in an official Play! Pokémon event, follow the event’s Battle Team rules; a trade does not exempt a competitor from the rule on externally modified Pokémon.
