Yes. Wizards of the Coast says cards in the main Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek set (TRK) are legal in all formats. The separate Star Trek Commander and stardates cards have narrower stated legality, so check the product code and your format before including a card. The announced tabletop release date is November 13, 2026; as of October 4, 2026, the cards are still upcoming.
Which Star Trek cards are legal in which formats?
Wizards distinguishes the main set from the Commander product and stardates cards. “Regular Magic” is not one shared card pool: Standard, Modern, Commander, Legacy, Vintage and other formats each have their own rules and restrictions.
| Card group | Wizards’ stated legality | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Main Star Trek set (TRK) | All formats | Confirm the card meets the format’s rules and is not banned in that format. |
| Star Trek Commander (TRC) and stardates (SDS) | Commander, Legacy and Vintage; individual cards may also be legal in other formats where already available | Check the exact card and format. The product’s overall legality does not make every included card legal in Standard, Pioneer or Modern. |
These categories and their legality are listed in Wizards’ Star Trek product overview. Wizards also notes that a card banned in one format can remain legal in another; consult the Banned & Restricted list for the format you plan to play.
Does “Universes Beyond” mean the cards are outside regular Magic?
No. The crossover label does not by itself exclude cards from ordinary formats. Wizards’ policy says that new Universes Beyond booster sets from 2025 onward are legal in all Constructed formats, while supplemental Commander content can have narrower legality. The Star Trek main set’s all-format status and the Commander/stardates exceptions follow that distinction. Read Wizards’ Universes Beyond format policy alongside the set-specific listing.

Can you play the cards in a tabletop game now?
Not yet, as of October 4, 2026. Wizards announces a global tabletop release date of November 13, 2026. The official product page lists preorder sellers, but a preorder listing is not a release or permission to use unreleased cards in ordinary tabletop play. See the official Star Trek product page for product details and the release announcement for the date.

Tabletop format legality and digital platform availability are separate questions. A card’s tabletop legality does not establish that it is available in MTG Arena or Magic: The Gathering Online. Check the relevant platform’s product support for confirmation; the cited Star Trek tabletop product information does not establish digital availability.
