How can I check if a used CPU is hardware banned before I buy it? The official guidance reviewed here does not provide a way to look up a loose processor’s anti-cheat ban history before purchase. Activision describes an on-device status check for Call of Duty, but it requires a complete device that can run a crossplay Call of Duty title and an account in good standing. It is not a universal CPU checker.
Can a loose used CPU be checked for an anti-cheat ban?
Not through the official procedures described by Activision, FACEIT, EA or Riot. None of the reviewed guidance documents a pre-purchase lookup for an individual processor using its serial number. A seller’s assurance or receipt is not a platform status result, either.
That is a limit of the published guidance, not proof that no private or game-specific process could exist. More importantly, the sources describe bans against an account, device or hardware—not a universal status attached to every CPU. They do not establish which components a platform tracks or whether changing a processor affects a device ban.
What Activision’s Call of Duty check actually tests
Activision says, “Hardware bans apply to the device and not the account.” Its stated check is to sign in to a crossplay Call of Duty title on the device with an account in good standing. If the hardware is banned, the game displays a status notification. See the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy.

This tests a device in use; it cannot clear a loose CPU sitting outside a working PC. It also applies to Call of Duty, not to FACEIT, Riot, EA or every game that uses anti-cheat software. Activision warns users to exercise caution with secondhand, shared or public devices and says hardware bans are not eligible for appeal.
How the other platforms’ guidance differs
| Platform | What its documented process covers | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Activision / Call of Duty | On-device hardware-ban notification after signing in with an account in good standing and launching a crossplay Call of Duty title. | A lookup for a loose CPU or a cross-game hardware clearance. |
| FACEIT | Its support guidance says playing on hardware that previously received a FACEIT ban is not a valid reason to lift a cheating ban. A player who believes their own ban was mistaken may submit a support ticket for review. FACEIT: My ban is not justified—what can I do? | A claim that every used component is banned, or a pre-purchase CPU lookup. The guidance does not promise an appeal will succeed. |
| EA | The Penalty History tool shows penalties associated with the signed-in EA account and lets the account holder appeal a listed violation. EA account bans, suspensions and locks | A hardware or processor status check. |
| Riot Vanguard | Riot discusses Vanguard operation and device security requirements, including on-demand operation on sufficiently secured PCs. Vanguard On-Demand — Anti-Cheat Update | A pre-purchase hardware-ban check. Security configuration requirements are not ban-status results. |
What to ask and test before buying
- Ask about the system’s use. Find out which games and platforms the seller used it with and whether they know of any restrictions. Treat an answer as seller-provided information, not verified clearance.
- If buying a complete PC for Call of Duty, request an on-device demonstration. Have the seller launch a crossplay Call of Duty title on that device while signed in with an account in good standing. The notification procedure described by Activision requires the running game and device; a CPU alone cannot perform it.
- For another game, consult that publisher’s current official policy. Do not assume another company offers Activision’s check. An account penalty page, such as EA’s Penalty History, does not establish a processor’s hardware status.
- Do not use “HWID checker,” spoofing or ban-bypass utilities as verification. The official material reviewed does not endorse them. Use the publisher’s support channel if a platform later flags the system, and give truthful purchase and system details.
A successful demonstration is only a precaution, not a guarantee of future access. Account standing, the title, platform, hardware and subsequent enforcement can all affect whether online play is available. Proof of secondhand purchase does not guarantee that a platform will reverse an action.

- WELL PROVEN QUALITY: The design of our thermal paste packagings has changed several times, the formula of the composition has remained unchanged, so our MX pastes have stood for high quality
- EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE: ARCTIC MX-4 thermal paste is made of carbon microparticles, guaranteeing extremely high thermal conductivity. This ensures that heat from the CPU/GPU is dissipated quickly & efficiently
- SAFE APPLICATION: The MX-4 is metal-free and non-electrical conductive which eliminates any risks of causing short circuit, adding more protection to the CPU and VGA cards
- 100 % ORIGINAL THROUGH AUTHENTICITY CHECK: Through our Authenticity Check, it is possible to verify the authenticity of every single product
- EASY TO APPLY: With an ideal consistency, the MX-4 is very easy to use, even for beginners, Spatula incl.
Can a used processor get your account banned?
The official guidance does not establish that buying or installing a secondhand CPU by itself causes an account ban. It does show that platform enforcement can distinguish account penalties from device or hardware restrictions. FACEIT’s guidance specifically says previously banned hardware is not a valid reason to have a cheating ban lifted; Activision says its hardware bans apply to devices and are not appealable. Neither policy identifies the CPU alone as the universal enforcement target.
