Yes. A hardware hacker got classic DOOM running on Anker’s Prime Charger rated up to 250W, but it is an unofficial, constrained demonstration—not an advertised gaming feature. The game ran at reduced resolution rather than full screen, and the charger’s rotary dial stood in for conventional controls.

Which Anker Prime device ran DOOM?

The demonstration used the Anker Prime Charger (250W, 6 Ports, GaNPrime), model A2345. It is distinct from Anker’s Prime Charging Station (8-in-1, 240W), model A91B2. Some coverage uses “charging station” loosely, but the two products should not be confused.

Anker’s listed charging ratings for the A2345 are up to 140W on USB-C1, up to 100W on each of USB-C2, C3 and C4, and up to 22.5W on each USB-A port, with up to 250W total output. Those figures describe charging capacity, not the device’s ability to run a game.

How did the charger run the game?

The charger already contains embedded electronics for its own functions. Hackaday reports that the A2345 includes a 150 MHz Synwit SWM341RET7 microcontroller, 16 MB of external flash and 8 MB of external RAM. Tom’s Hardware describes the chip as a Synwit SWM34S, with 16 MB of storage and 8 MB of SDRAM. Both reports identify a small color display and describe the same demonstration; their terminology for the chip and memory differs.

Hackaday gives the display resolution as 200×480 pixels. Tom’s Hardware describes it as a 2.26-inch, 480×200-pixel display and reports that the creator reduced the game’s resolution to get the shown performance. Hackaday says full-screen gameplay exceeded what the hardware could practically handle. Neither publication supplies a controlled benchmark or a reliable frame-rate figure.

Tom’s Hardware attributes the phrase “completely without any hardware modifications” to creator Aaron Christophel, while also reporting that he used the device’s debugging header to load the game software. In other words, the report describes a software-loading process without physical hardware modification; it does not mean the charger offers a built-in DOOM option or that Anker supports installing games.

What are the controls like?

The charger’s clicky rotary encoder is the only reported control input, so it has to do the work of several game buttons. According to Tom’s Hardware, rotating the dial moves forward or backward; pushing it while rotating moves left or right; clicking fires or opens gates. PC Gamer also describes the control scheme as awkward because actions are combined on the same dial.

There is no game audio in the reported demo. The encoder’s clicks and movement provide the audible feedback instead. That makes the result a playable proof of concept, but not a substitute for playing DOOM with a conventional controller or keyboard.

What the demonstration does—and does not—show

  • It shows: the A2345’s embedded hardware can run a constrained, unofficial DOOM demonstration after the software is loaded through its debugging header.
  • It does not show: a supported gaming mode, full-screen performance, conventional controls, or a general-purpose game installation feature.
  • It does not establish: a measured frame rate or a fair performance ranking against other devices that run DOOM.

Hackaday and Tom’s Hardware reported the demonstration on August 21, 2025; PC Gamer covered it the same day. Their reports support the basic result, but not broader claims about performance beyond the reduced-resolution demonstration.
