Yes. Vimeo can loop a pre-recorded video during a live event and simulcast that event to YouTube. In Vimeo’s event production tool, set the video playback behavior to Loop, then add YouTube as a destination—either by connecting your YouTube account or by entering YouTube’s RTMP URL and stream key. The steps to start the broadcast differ depending on which connection you use.
What you need before setting it up
- A Vimeo Advanced or Premium account, or an Enterprise account with the Events feature, for the relevant live-event and simulcast features. See Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast instructions.
- A verified YouTube account to livestream. YouTube’s verification requirement is noted in Vimeo’s setup guidance.
- The pre-recorded video you want to play during the event.
Create the Vimeo event and set the video to loop
- In Vimeo, open the video’s settings and choose Stream live to create an event from that video. Vimeo says the video is preloaded in the new event. Alternatively, create an event and add the video to a scene. See How to stream my video as a live event.
- In the event production tool, select the video and set its playback behavior to Loop. Vimeo’s documentation says the video restarts from the beginning when playback reaches the end: Playback prerecorded videos during your Vimeo event.
Add YouTube as the event destination
Vimeo documents two ways to send the event to YouTube. The direct integration connects your YouTube account; RTMP uses the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. Both make YouTube a destination for the Vimeo event.

Follow Vimeo’s full YouTube simulcast instructions for the destination setup. Vimeo’s general guidance allows up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations for an event; some platforms may require an additional action in their own portal before viewers can see the stream. What viewers see—and a captions limitation
Vimeo’s instructions describe sending the event to YouTube, but they do not establish whether YouTube identifies the broadcast to viewers as pre-recorded or how YouTube classifies a particular broadcast. Do not assume the loop itself changes YouTube’s viewer-facing labeling.

Vimeo also states that captions or subtitles included in the uploaded video are not displayed when the video plays back live. If captions matter, plan a separate approach rather than assuming the uploaded caption track will appear in the simulcast. Details are in Vimeo’s prerecorded playback guidance.
If the YouTube stream does not appear to start
- Direct integration: confirm YouTube is connected and enabled in the event’s Destinations settings, then start the event on Vimeo.
- Scheduled RTMP event: check YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if it is still waiting for that action.
- RTMP destination: verify that the URL and stream key entered in Vimeo match the values for the intended YouTube event.
- Eligibility: check that the Vimeo account has a qualifying plan and that the YouTube account is verified for livestreaming.
These checks address the documented setup steps; they do not guarantee a cause where YouTube or Vimeo reports a different error.
