That is different from magic resistance, which reduces incoming magic damage but does not make the character fully immune. The exact route depends on your game setup, and absorption does not protect against every hostile effect.
Spell absorption and magic resistance are different
Magic resistance reduces damage from magic. A Nexus Mods community guide reports an 80% magic-resistance cap in the context it describes; treat that figure as configuration-dependent community guidance, not a universal guarantee for every edition, patch, or mod setup. The guide’s resistance and absorption overview.
Spell absorption gives a chance to absorb qualifying magic rather than take its effects. The same guide describes 100% absorption as the threshold at which absorbable spells are fully absorbed. A Steam discussion relaying UESP also describes a route to that threshold, but it is a secondary source rather than an official Bethesda build guide. Steam discussion on stacking resistance and absorption.
Ways to build spell absorption
The community guide lists the Atronach Stone and the Alteration Atronach perk among the available absorption sources. A separate route discussed in the Steam thread combines Miraak’s Robes with either Miraak’s Boots or Gloves, the Atronach Stone power, and the Atronach perk. The thread ties the named equipment to the Dragonborn expansion. Because the exact combination is supported here by secondary reporting, check its requirements against your edition and game configuration before planning around it.
#1 Best Overall
- ENTER THE WORLD OF SKYRIM: Experience the legendary open-world RPG as a tabletop adventure, exploring Tamriel through branching quests, iconic factions, and rich Elder Scrolls lore.
- COOPERATIVE OR SOLO PLAY: Designed for 1–4 players, allowing you to adventure solo or team up to face dragons, uncover conspiracies, and shape the fate of Skyrim together.
- OPEN-ENDED QUEST SYSTEM: Choose how you approach each mission—diplomacy, stealth, or combat—as your decisions permanently impact the story and the world around you.
- DEEP CHARACTER PROGRESSION: Build unique heroes with evolving skills, gear, and abilities inspired by the video game’s iconic progression systems.
- HIGH REPLAYABILITY: Modular scenarios, multiple quest paths, and varied character builds ensure every campaign feels fresh and every journey through Skyrim is different.
These options have different costs: a standing-stone choice, a perk investment, and—if using the Miraak equipment—specific gear and Dragonborn content. They may also affect whether you can comfortably rely on Magicka-based spells; the sources do not establish one universally best arrangement.
Account for the Atronach tradeoff

- INCLUDED CONTENT - The Anniversary Edition includes the core game, pre-existing and new Creation Club content, plus all three official add-ons: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn.
That cost matters if your character regularly casts spells. Before committing to an absorption-focused setup, consider how you will recover or manage Magicka and whether the build still supports your preferred magic use. The available sources do not establish that every route has the same regeneration consequences.

Do not read “100% spell absorption” as immunity to every enemy attack or effect. The claim concerns qualifying magic processed by the absorption mechanic; it does not establish protection from all sources of harm. Nor should the reported 80% resistance cap be treated as equivalent to immunity.

Choose a route for your character and game setup
- Want reduced damage with fewer build constraints? Magic resistance is a different defensive approach, but the community guide’s reported cap means it should not be described as complete immunity.
- Want to absorb qualifying spells? Consider the Atronach Stone and Alteration perk options, while accounting for the standing-stone and perk choices they require.
- Considering the Miraak equipment route? Confirm that you have the Dragonborn content and that the specific combination applies to your edition, patch, and mods; the cited discussion is not authoritative version-by-version documentation.
- Use Conjuration or other self-targeted magic? The sources reviewed do not establish how every absorption source interacts with each self-cast spell, so do not assume an absorption build will behave identically for all spell uses.
