Yes. In the Resident Evil 4 remake, you can kill Verdugo without activating any liquid-nitrogen showers. Doing so completes the “Too Cool for Such Tricks” challenge. The nitrogen showers help by briefly freezing or slowing him, but they are not required to defeat him.
How to kill Verdugo without using a nitrogen shower
The challenge requires you to defeat Verdugo without using any liquid-nitrogen showers; simply escaping the encounter does not count. PowerPyx lists the requirement in its Resident Evil 4 Remake All Challenges Guide.

- Do not activate the liquid-nitrogen shower traps during the Chapter 10 underground laboratory encounter.
- Attack Verdugo with the strongest weapons available in your inventory. GameSpot recommends hard-hitting options such as shotguns or magnums, and Neoseeker also lists a rocket launcher as an option. These are guide suggestions, not a guaranteed loadout or a weapon-specific requirement.
- Keep attacking while managing his movement and attacks. Gameranx reports that shots damage him and that headshots deal extra damage; without the showers’ temporary stun and slow, you will have fewer safe opportunities to attack.
The guides do not establish a universal ammunition count or damage threshold, so the resources needed can depend on your weapons, inventory, and difficulty.
Kill him for the challenge or evade him to escape?
Verdugo’s encounter also functions as a timed escape. You can avoid fighting and leave once the elevator is ready, which preserves ammunition but does not complete the kill challenge. Gamepressure describes the nitrogen showers as a temporary way to freeze Verdugo and notes that evasion until the elevator arrives is an alternative.
