Yes. In Stardew Valley, marriage adds an ongoing shared household: you can talk to your spouse, give gifts, kiss, build friendship after the wedding, and optionally have children. Your spouse may also help with farm chores or leave gifts, but those benefits are not guaranteed every day.
What changes after you marry an NPC?
Your spouse moves into the farmhouse, bringing character-specific dialogue and routines. Spouses also have their own space in the home and an outdoor area. The details vary by character, so marriage is not simply the same set of lines and actions for every NPC. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s marriage guide covers spouse interactions and household behavior.

Marriage does not end the friendship system. A spouse’s relationship meter can continue up to 14 hearts. You can keep interacting and giving gifts to build or maintain the relationship; the friendship guide documents the effects of those interactions.
What can you do with your spouse each day?
- Talk: Speak to your spouse to see their current dialogue, which can change with the character and circumstances.
- Give a gift: Gifts remain a way to affect friendship after marriage. Be mindful of the game’s conditional jealousy mechanic: the marriage guide describes jealousy in connection with giving a gift to another marriage candidate, rather than suggesting that any gift to any villager triggers it.
- Kiss: A kiss is a daily interaction with a documented friendship gain for the first kiss of the day. Additional kisses that day do not provide that same listed gain.
Spouses may help with basic farm chores or give you gifts. Treat these as possible household behavior, not a dependable chore schedule or guaranteed daily reward.

Can you have children with your spouse?
Yes, children are optional. For an NPC marriage, the documented requirements include being married and having the second farmhouse upgrade, which adds the nursery. A household can have no more than two children. Children cannot be given gifts. See the children guide for the child system’s details.
Can you marry another player in multiplayer?
Yes. Multiplayer marriage is a separate option from marrying an NPC: players can marry one another, and the wedding includes a Stardrop. Child eligibility depends on the shared home being eligible, including having a nursery and meeting the game’s space and sleeping conditions for a child proposal. The multiplayer guide explains those conditions; they should not be assumed to be identical to the NPC-marriage explanation.

The official Stardew Valley 1.6 changelog notes custom gift reactions and restored some marriage-related dialogue. That provides useful context if an older dialogue list does not match what you see, but it is not a complete account of every spouse mechanic or later update.
