What the eShop closure means for Pokémon Bank
Nintendo ended new Nintendo 3DS eShop purchases and free content downloads on March 27, 2023. Its Pokémon transfer instructions specify that Bank had to be downloaded before that date. Nintendo’s end-of-service notice says the app is not currently available for download.

There is a narrow distinction for people who already had Bank: Nintendo’s eShop discontinuation FAQ says previously acquired content can be redownloaded for the foreseeable future. That is not a promise of permanent availability, and it does not let someone newly acquire the app.

How long can existing users keep using Bank?
Nintendo currently schedules Pokémon Bank service to end on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Bank-to-Pokémon HOME transfers are also scheduled to stop then. Nintendo advises users to move Pokémon before the service ends. Check Nintendo’s service notice for any updates to that date.

Moving Pokémon from Bank to Pokémon HOME
Bank-to-HOME transfers require Pokémon HOME Premium; they are unavailable on the free Basic plan, according to Nintendo’s plan comparison. The transfer is one-way: Pokémon moved from Bank to HOME cannot be moved back to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles. Consider that limitation before starting.
Nintendo’s US support page lists Premium at $2.99 for 30 days, $4.99 for 90 days, or $15.99 for 365 days, excluding tax. HOME Basic is free but does not support Bank transfers. These are prices shown on Nintendo’s US page; prices can differ by region and may change, so confirm the current local price before subscribing.
What to do if you already have Bank
- Check whether Pokémon Bank is installed on the 3DS-family system you can access. A different console or a HOME subscription cannot create a first-time Bank download entitlement.
- If your goal is to move Pokémon to HOME, confirm that you can access the 3DS and Bank account involved in the transfer. Nintendo’s transfer instructions distinguish the steps based on whether you have access to the linked 3DS.
- Review which Pokémon you want to move, then confirm you are willing to accept a one-way transfer before using HOME Premium.
- Complete any intended transfers before Nintendo’s currently scheduled Bank service end date of February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST.
If you never downloaded Bank
There is no supported first-time download route in Nintendo’s current guidance. Buying a 3DS-family console does not change that. If you want to preserve Pokémon held in other games, consult Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME FAQ for the transfer options that apply to your games and hardware; do not assume that a new HOME account can retrieve Pokémon from a Bank app you never had.
