Yes, but the documented method is specific to Borderlands 3 and is not confirmed to work on every current platform or game version. A September 14, 2019 Gameranx guide describes backing up a save, transferring a gun to a co-op partner, and restoring the earlier save. Borderlands includes multiple games, so that method should not be assumed to apply to the whole series.
How the Borderlands 3 duplication method works
Gameranx’s 2019 guide describes a save-backup method: the original player gives a gun to another player, lets the partner’s progress save, then restores a save from before the transfer. If the restore succeeds as described, the original player gets the gun back while the partner keeps the transferred copy. Read the Gameranx guide.

The guide says this requires a second player in online or split-screen co-op. A USB drive is one backup option it mentions, alongside cloud backup; a USB drive is not presented as a universal requirement. The process depends on restoring the earlier save without undoing the partner’s saved progress.
- Back up your save while you still hold the gun. Choose a backup option supported by your platform; the guide mentions USB or cloud backup.
- Join online or split-screen co-op with another player.
- Drop or trade the gun to your partner.
- Allow the partner’s progress to save, then exit the session.
- Restore your own earlier save and check whether you have the gun again while your partner still has the transferred copy.
Does the Borderlands 3 method still work?
The guide says more convenient duplication methods had been patched by the time it was published, but its instructions date to September 14, 2019. It does not verify the method against current game updates or today’s platform-specific save synchronization. Treat it as a historical procedure, not a guarantee.

Restoring an earlier save can also overwrite newer progress. Before trying it, make sure you understand which save is being restored and what progress may be lost. The available sources provide no failure rate or current compatibility list by platform.
What about Borderlands 2 and other games?
There is no basis here for treating the Borderlands 3 steps as a series-wide method. A February 23, 2013 Steam discussion about Borderlands 2 contains player-reported approaches and conflicting reports, so it is anecdotal rather than dependable current guidance. See the Steam discussion.

Save-editor support is also game-specific. Rick Gibbed’s site lists editors for Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, and says there is no Gibbed editor for Borderlands 3. The site lists the Borderlands 2 editor release date as May 30, 2020; this is not evidence that an editor-based duplication method is safe or suitable for every player. Check Rick Gibbed’s site.
Aspyr’s Borderlands 2 Mac FAQ gives save-file locations and notes that Mac and Windows online multiplayer depends on synchronized game versions. It does not document gun duplication. Read the Aspyr FAQ, updated October 11, 2022.
