What sharing means for your Steam family
Steam Families is Valve’s current family library feature, replacing the older Steam Family Sharing and Family View systems. Valve made it generally available on September 11, 2024; Steam describes a family as including up to six close family members. Manage a family through the Steam client, mobile device, or web browser. - Access, not ownership: Each member uses their own Steam account, and shared games appear in the family library. The owner keeps ownership of the copy.
- Your own progress: Players have separate saves and achievements when playing from a family library.
- The owner can play another game: A family member can use an eligible game from another member’s library while that owner plays a different game.
