Can You Fix Split-Screen Co-Op in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer?

Split-screen is not supported in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer. Here’s how online multiplayer works and where to report a genuine bug.

You can’t fix split-screen in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer: the game does not support split-screen multiplayer. A missing local-play option is not a controller, console, PC, or display fault. If you want to race with a friend, use online multiplayer instead; if an online feature that should work is broken, check the game’s known-issues post and contact customer support.

Why split-screen can’t be enabled

The game’s FAQ states: “No, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer.” It does not describe a local co-op mode either. That means there is no second-controller sequence, display setting, or in-game toggle that can add shared-screen racing.

This distinction matters because a missing feature can look like a setup problem. You might expect a local-play menu, a prompt to add another racer, or a way to divide the display after connecting a second controller. But the FAQ confirms that split-screen is not part of the game. If that is the only issue, there is nothing to repair or configure: the game does not offer the mode.

Don’t spend time pairing another controller or changing resolution and display settings to look for a split-screen fix. Those steps cannot enable a mode the game does not offer. Buying another copy, display, console, PC component, repair tool, or guide will not add it, either. A second controller can be useful for games that support local multiplayer, but it does not change this game’s feature set.

The official product information describes online multiplayer, not local split-screen. Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer. The Xbox store listing also identifies online multiplayer and cross-platform play. These listings were checked October 11, 2026, and features may change with later updates. The game launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to StarWars.com.

How to race with a friend online

If by “co-op” you mean playing or competing with a friend, rather than sharing one screen, online multiplayer is the documented alternative. Each player uses a connected system; it is not a local mode on one device. Before you troubleshoot a failed invitation or queue, work through these checks:

  1. Confirm that both players can play online. Check internet access and online-play access for each player’s platform. On Xbox consoles, the Xbox store listing says online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. Check the current Xbox store terms for your region before relying on that requirement. Do not assume the same subscription terms apply to PC or another console; verify the platform each player uses.
  2. Check platform compatibility and crossplay. The game FAQ says crossplay between PC and consoles is enabled by default and can be turned off. If you cannot join a friend on another platform, check that crossplay has not been disabled in the relevant game or platform settings. The FAQ does not give a more specific menu path, so avoid relying on instructions for a setting location that may not match your version or platform. If you are both on compatible platforms and still cannot connect, treat that as an online issue rather than evidence of a local mode.
  3. Choose an online event that suits your group. Party size and race size are different. A party is the group that queues together; the event’s player capacity can be larger, with AI racers filling unoccupied slots, according to the FAQ. A maximum race capacity does not mean that many human friends can all join your party at once.
  4. Allow for matchmaking requirements. If a two-person party starts a new Tour or Quick Race, the FAQ says a third unique player outside that party must also be searching before a new match can begin. If no match starts, wait for another player to queue or for matchmaking to place your party into an event with open spaces. The third player must be outside your party; simply having two people in the party does not satisfy the stated condition.
  5. Consider region matching. The FAQ says matchmaking prioritizes players in the same region and can match across regions if necessary. This may affect how quickly a suitable match is found. The FAQ does not promise an exact wait time, so do not interpret a delay by itself as proof that split-screen or online play is broken.

When checking an online problem, separate the symptom from the original expectation. If you are looking for a shared-screen option, that is unsupported. If you can play online but cannot join a particular friend, confirm online access, platform compatibility, and crossplay status first. If you are already in a two-person party trying to launch a new Tour or Quick Race, account for the third-player matchmaking condition. These checks address documented online requirements; they do not unlock local co-op.

Online party limits and race sizes

Online feature Player capacity described by the FAQ What to know
Online party Up to 3 players currently The FAQ describes a planned increase to 6 players in a future update aimed at the first weeks after launch. Treat that as a plan, not a confirmed current limit; check the current FAQ for changes.
Quick Race Up to 12 players Unfilled places are filled with AI racers. A two-person party starting a new Quick Race may need a third unique player outside the party to be searching.
Multiplayer Tour Up to 12 players Unfilled places are filled with AI racers. The same FAQ matchmaking condition applies when a two-person party starts a new Tour.
Quick Podrace Up to 8 players Unfilled places are filled with AI racers.
Podracer Tour Up to 8 players Unfilled places are filled with AI racers.

These are the figures in the game FAQ checked October 11, 2026, and may change. Xbox separately lists online multiplayer for 2–12 players; that store listing is not evidence of split-screen support or a different local mode.

For a group deciding what to queue, use the party limit when counting the friends who can join together and use the race capacity when considering the event’s total field. Those numbers answer different questions. For example, the FAQ’s current party limit is three, while Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour list capacity up to 12. Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour list capacity up to eight. The FAQ says open places are filled with AI racers, so a smaller group does not need to supply enough friends to fill every listed race slot.

The FAQ also describes an intended future party increase from three to six players, aimed at the first weeks after launch. That wording is a plan, not confirmation that the change has already happened. Check the maintained FAQ for the current limit before organizing a larger group. The online figures are product details, not a promise that every event will always contain its maximum number of human players.

When troubleshooting is appropriate

Troubleshoot only if an online feature or another feature the game supports is failing. The game’s FAQ directs players who encounter a bug to customer support, and its known-issues post advises reporting problems that are not already listed. This is the right route for an actual defect; it is not a workaround for a feature the FAQ says is unsupported.

  1. Check the maintained known-issues post for the symptom you are seeing.
  2. If the issue is listed, follow any available guidance there and check back for updates.
  3. If it is not listed, submit a bug report through the game’s customer support form. Include the platform, what you were trying to do, what happened, and any error message so support can understand the issue.

Be precise about the problem in a report. “Split-screen is missing” describes an unsupported feature, not a bug to unlock. By contrast, if an online function that the game documents is failing, explain which supported function you attempted and what happened. The FAQ and known-issues guidance direct players with bugs toward customer support; they do not offer a split-screen request as a troubleshooting step.

Use that support route for a genuine defect, such as an online feature failing unexpectedly. It is not a way to request or unlock unsupported split-screen. Before contacting support, the documented checks above can help distinguish an online access or matchmaking issue from a missing local mode. If the problem remains, use the official form rather than buying hardware or software advertised as a fix.

Is online play an acceptable substitute?

That depends on what you mean by co-op. If you want to compete with a friend while each of you plays on a separate connected system, online multiplayer is the documented option. If you specifically want two people on one screen and one device, the game’s FAQ confirms that this is not available. Online PvP lets players compete online; it should not be described as local co-op or as an equivalent shared-screen experience.

  • Internet access: online racing requires players to be able to connect online. If either player cannot access online play, the documented online alternative may not fit your situation.
  • Platform compatibility: check whether your platforms can play together and whether crossplay is enabled. The FAQ says PC-console crossplay is on by default, but can be turned off.
  • Subscription: Xbox console online play has the subscription requirement listed by Xbox; verify the current terms for your region. This is a recurring access consideration, not a split-screen purchase or fix.
  • Group size: the party limit is not the same as a race’s maximum capacity, and matchmaking can require another player outside a two-person party for a new Tour or Quick Race.
  • Shared-screen preference: if same-device local play is essential, online PvP does not provide that experience. No verified split-screen option is available to compare.

There is no honest hardware purchase that solves the local-play limitation. Buying a second controller, a larger display, another copy of the game, or a more powerful PC or console will not add split-screen. The game itself is available physically or digitally, but a purchase does not change the FAQ’s stated multiplayer support. If your must-have requirement is local split-screen, confirm the feature status before spending money on the game or on accessories intended to make it work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For players weighing online play instead, the meaningful trade-offs are connectivity, compatible platforms and crossplay, any platform-specific online subscription, and whether the group size fits the party and event limits. These are the factors the available product details establish. There are no verified local options to compare by screen layout, player count, or controller setup because the game does not support split-screen.

The Xbox store listing says online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. Check the current listing and terms for your region.
