No. Valve’s published policy says non-Prime accounts cannot play Ranked matches or earn Ranks and Skill Groups. They can still play Unranked matches, which use skill-based matchmaking but do not award a Skill Group.

These Ranked and Unranked rules come from Valve’s June 3, 2021 announcement on adjustments to non-Prime accounts. Valve’s current CS2 Steam listing confirms that the Prime Status Upgrade grants Prime Account Status in CS2 and says Prime players are matched with other Prime players, but the listing’s short description does not restate all rank-eligibility details.
How to get Prime status
Prime is an account entitlement, not a rank or a reward for reaching a particular skill level. Valve offers a Prime Status Upgrade on the Counter-Strike 2 Steam page. The listing showed a US price of $14.99 when observed on October 8, 2026; price and availability may vary by region or change over time. After obtaining Prime Account Status, you can participate in Ranked matches under Valve’s published policy.
What happens if you keep playing without Prime?
You can continue playing the supported Unranked modes and be matched using skill-based matchmaking. What you cannot do under Valve’s stated non-Prime policy is earn a Ranked Skill Group. Unranked matchmaking is therefore not a way to earn the same rank without Prime.

Because Valve’s detailed eligibility announcement dates to June 2021, check the current CS2 store listing and any newer official Valve policy for changes before relying on those rules.
