Yes. Riot says rank boosting violates its Terms of Use, and a ban is a real risk. In a notice for Season 2024 Split 2, Riot said detected boosted accounts or boosting behavior could bring an immediate suspension, loss of Honor level and ranked rewards, with a full League of Legends account ban for repeat offenders.
What Riot’s rules say about rank boosting
Riot’s Protecting Your Account guidance, dated June 1, 2026, groups rank boosting with account trading and profile sharing, stating that these activities violate its Terms of Use. Riot’s guidance also says only the account owner should have access to the account.
The policy statement establishes that boosting is prohibited, but it does not define every possible arrangement. The available Riot material does not establish that ordinary coaching, self-play, or every high-rank/low-rank duo queue counts as boosting. Avoid treating those activities as automatically prohibited on this evidence alone.
What penalties can a boosted account face?
Riot’s End of Season 2024 – Split 2 notice specified this consequence ladder for detected boosting:

Who can be affected?
Riot’s Season 2024 Split 2 notice refers both to “boosted accounts” and to “boosting behavior.” In practical terms, the risk is not limited to the person who performs boosting: an account identified as boosted can also be suspended and lose eligibility for rewards. The notice does not explain how Riot determines that an account was boosted.

How to protect your account
Riot recommends keeping access to the account limited to its owner and using basic account protections. Its account guidance includes email verification and multi-factor authentication. These steps help protect account access; they do not make boosting permitted.

Riot’s Instant Feedback System FAQ, dated May 24, 2026, says players are responsible for activity on their accounts and links to a separate support topic titled “MMR / Elo Boosting – Rank Manipulation.” The Instant Feedback page also discusses disruptive in-game behavior, but those unrelated behavior penalties should not be mistaken for boosting penalties.
