Riot says sharing a League of Legends account violates its Terms of Use and may lead to a permanent ban. Riot’s League guidance also says account sharing or selling can result in immediate bans. That describes a possible consequence, not a guaranteed penalty for every instance.
What Riot’s rules say about account sharing
Riot Support says that “Rank boosting, account trading, profile sharing… All of these activities violate our Terms of Use.” It also says, “Only you should have access to your Riot account, and only through your email address.” Riot’s account-protection guidance therefore treats profile sharing as a policy issue, not just a matter of whether you trust the other person.

Riot’s 2025 League developer guidance calls account sharing and selling a “hard no-go” that can result in immediate bans. Riot’s Terms of Service also addresses sharing login credentials and playing on another person’s account to boost status or rank, and holds users responsible for activity on their accounts.
Which kinds of sharing are especially risky?
Letting a friend or family member play
Giving someone your credentials or letting them use your account goes against Riot’s guidance that only the account owner should have access. The reviewed policy does not establish a separate, guaranteed penalty for a one-time or casual login, so it would be inaccurate to say every instance automatically results in a ban. It is still a policy and account-security risk.

Ranked boosting
Riot defines boosting as another player logging into your account to play Ranked games with the purpose of increasing its MMR or rank. Whether the other player returns the account or is paid does not change that definition. Riot says sharing or selling can bring immediate bans, and its account-penalties FAQ says an account used to boost or manipulate rank may be flagged for Ranked manipulation and banned.
The prohibition is not limited to paid boosting: Riot Support separately names rank boosting, account trading, and profile sharing as violations. Riot does not publish a guaranteed outcome for every account-sharing situation, a fixed penalty for all cases, or a detection rate.

What to do if someone else has accessed your account
- Stop sharing access. Do not give the other person your login details or let them continue using the account.
- Secure the account. Follow Riot’s account-protection guidance. Riot warns that sharing can make account recovery harder and says the owner should access the account through their own email address.
- Contact Riot Support if the access was unauthorized or a penalty has been applied. Use Riot Support for account-security or penalty guidance. Riot’s published guidance does not guarantee that a particular restriction will be removed.
