You can’t earn new My Nintendo Gold Points by buying Nintendo Switch games now. Nintendo ended Gold Point rewards for digital purchases on March 24, 2025, and for registering physical Switch games on March 25, 2026. If you already have Gold Points, you can still spend eligible ones before they expire; Platinum Points from missions are a separate currency.

Can you still earn Gold Points from a Switch game purchase?

No. Nintendo of America says digital purchases stopped earning Gold Points after 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Registering physical Nintendo Switch software stopped earning them on March 25, 2026. Buying an eligible game now—digital or physical—does not award new Gold Points. Nintendo’s current Gold Points guidance covers both changes.

Former route Former rules Status now
Digital purchase Before the cutoff, qualifying digital purchases earned 5% of the eligible amount paid, excluding tax and certain points or discounts used. My Nintendo’s program announcement Ended after 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Nintendo Support
Physical game registration Before the cutoff, eligible physical games earned 1% of the Nintendo eShop price, excluding tax. Games had to meet the release-date eligibility rule and be registered within one year of original release. My Nintendo’s program announcement Ended March 25, 2026. The old registration window has passed. Nintendo Support

Why the old instructions no longer work

Physical game cards

The former physical-game route required registering an eligible game card from the console HOME Menu, within one year of the game’s original release. Nintendo’s current notice says the registration reward ended on March 25, 2026, so registering a card now will not earn Gold Points. The old instructions are historical, not a current workaround. Digital games and eShop card balances

There is no digital-purchase workaround. Nintendo says purchases made with a Nintendo eShop card balance also stopped earning Gold Points at the digital cutoff. A card or store listing that still mentions the former rewards program does not change the current policy. Nintendo Support

How to use Gold Points you already have

Existing Gold Points can still be applied to eligible digital games and downloadable content in Nintendo eShop and on Nintendo’s website where that option is available. They cannot be used for passes, automatic renewals, in-game items, or virtual currency. Check the points history while signed in to your Nintendo Account for your balance and each point’s expiry date. Nintendo Support · My Nintendo

Gold Points expire through the last day of the month 12 months after they were earned. For example, points earned in May expire on May 31 of the following year. Your account’s points history is the place to confirm the exact deadline for your balance. Nintendo Support

What can still earn My Nintendo points?

Eligible My Nintendo missions can still award Platinum Points, including some activities connected to Nintendo services and supported smart-device applications. Nintendo Switch Online Missions & Rewards is another Platinum Point route in supported countries. These are not Gold Points, and Nintendo does not let members convert Platinum Points into Gold Points. My Nintendo missions · Nintendo Support
