To sign out of League of Legends, click the X in the client’s top-right corner and choose Sign Out in the prompt. Choose Exit instead if you only want to close the League client. The reported workflow comes from a secondary guide, so labels or prompts may differ between client builds.

Sign out of the League of Legends client

In the League client, click the X in the top-right corner.
In the prompt, select Sign Out. This returns you to the Riot login screen, according to LoL Theory’s guide, updated August 25, 2026.

At the login screen, enter the credentials for the account you want to use. League sign-in uses a Riot account; Riot says that the same account spans its games and that its username and password are used to sign in to Riot game clients (Riot Games Support, “Managing Your Riot Account,” May 17, 2026).

Sign Out or Exit: which should you choose?

Option	What it does	When to use it
Sign Out	Returns you to the Riot login screen, according to the secondary guide linked above.	Use it to switch accounts or leave the client signed out.
Exit	Closes the League client, according to the same guide.	Use it when you want to close the client, not return to the login screen.

Why might the client skip the login screen?

Riot’s updated login flow supports saved credentials and a Stay Signed In option that can skip the login screen. Riot describes this behavior in its April 21, 2024 support article about installing the updated League client. If the client takes you straight back into the game, use Sign Out from the close prompt before trying to log in with another account.

Close the Riot launcher in the Windows system tray

On Windows, closing the Riot launcher window may leave its icon running in the system tray. The secondary guide says to open the hidden icons in the taskbar, right-click the Riot Games icon, and choose Exit to close the launcher. This is a Windows-specific instruction and is separate from signing out of the League client.

Sign out on a shared computer

When you finish using League on a shared device, sign off and keep your account credentials private. Riot’s account-protection guidance, dated June 1, 2026, includes logging off in shared spaces. The client’s Sign Out option returns you to the login screen; the available guidance does not establish that it ends sessions on every other device.
