You cannot follow a supported, documented Linux installation procedure for PS5 Pro without taking an unestablished risk. As of October 7, 2026, the ps5-linux project lists support for specific PS5 Phat and Slim models and firmware versions, but not PS5 Pro. Do not use its Phat or Slim instructions on a Pro, and do not treat a jailbreak report as proof that Linux will boot on that model.
Does the ps5-linux project support PS5 Pro?
No. The project’s loader documentation names PS5 Phat and Slim hardware and lists selected firmware releases; PS5 Pro is not listed. That makes model compatibility the first blocker—not storage, peripherals, or choice of Linux distribution.
The project’s documentation has changed over time: Tom’s Hardware reported on April 29, 2026 that Linux support was then limited to older PS5 Phat consoles, while the project’s current documentation lists Phat and Slim. Use the project’s own compatibility page for its present scope, not older coverage.
Why a jailbreak does not mean Linux is compatible
A jailbreak and a Linux boot are separate capabilities. A September 30, 2026 report described Relapse jailbreak coverage for firmware 7.00–13.60, including PS5 Pro. That does not establish that the ps5-linux loader supports the Pro: the loader has its own model and firmware requirements. Exploit coverage can also change, so do not use it to infer Linux compatibility.

Why there is no “without bricking” installation guide
The reviewed project documentation does not provide a PS5 Pro Linux procedure or a measured PS5 Pro brick rate. That means there is no supported route here to characterize as safe or brick-proof; it does not mean damage is certain. Sony’s warning is specifically about system software installation: “Interrupting the installation can cause your console to be damaged.” That warning is not a measured risk estimate for every Linux attempt.
What not to do to chase Pro compatibility
- Do not adapt Phat or Slim installation instructions. Those instructions are not evidence of Pro support.
- Do not update or downgrade firmware to try to make the loader work. The project says not to expect support for firmware 8.00 and above and says downgrading is not possible. Sony directs users to official update and reinstallation methods and warns that third-party update data or a modified console may not operate properly or affect warranty or repair service.
- Do not buy peripherals or storage as a compatibility fix. For its supported configurations, the project lists a USB drive of at least 64 GB and USB keyboard and mouse; a compatible M.2 SSD is optional on certain configurations. None of these items makes PS5 Pro a supported model.
What the project’s requirements do—and do not—tell you
The project’s listed USB and optional M.2 requirements apply only to configurations it supports. Its FAQ also says M.2 support is unavailable on firmware 3.xx because the console fails to boot with the drive attached, and that Linux is a soft mod: after reboot, the exploit must be run again. These details should not be treated as a Pro installation recipe.

The project organization page showed the loader updated September 5, 2026, and patches updated September 29, 2026. Those release and update dates describe project activity, not PS5 Pro compatibility or a guarantee that a future build will add it.

Sony instructs users to install or reinstall PS5 system software using its official files and documented methods. Its support notice says reinstalling system software deletes console data, warns that software obtained through another source or method—or a modified console—may not operate properly or install official updates, and says this can affect warranty and repair services. It also advises against installing system software immediately before or after a power outage and against turning off the console during installation. If you are dealing with a software problem, follow Sony’s PS5 system software support and recovery instructions, rather than using unofficial firmware or downgrade instructions.
