Sometimes—but there is no blanket rule that every prerecorded product-demo loop is either legal or allowed by YouTube. You need the rights to every part of the video, must comply with YouTube’s live-stream and content policies, and may need to disclose a commercial relationship. Whether the stream can be monetized is a separate question from whether you have permission to use the footage.
What determines whether a product-demo loop is allowed?
Four separate questions matter: do you have the legal rights to the material; does the stream comply with YouTube’s policies; are any advertising relationships disclosed; and does the channel meet monetization rules? A stream working technically answers none of these questions by itself.
- Rights and applicable law: YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions require creators to have the necessary rights to exploit the live content and comply with applicable laws and regulations. The Live Content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
- YouTube policy: The terms require compliance with platform policies. There is no categorical permission in the cited rules saying all prerecorded loops are allowed, nor a categorical rule saying they are all prohibited.
- Advertising disclosures: If the demo involves a paid promotion or another commercial connection, YouTube’s branded-content requirements and any applicable legal disclosure duties may apply.
- Monetization: A stream may raise monetization concerns even when you have permission to use its footage. YouTube’s reused- and inauthentic-content rules are not a substitute for copyright law.
The exact answer depends on the stream’s audience and territory, who created and owns the footage and audio, what permissions cover them, how the broadcast is presented, and whether the presenter has a relationship with the product or brand. The cited platform rules and U.S. guidance do not establish a worldwide legal conclusion for every product or creator.
Do you have rights to every part of the demo?
Start with the complete video, not just the product shown. A demo can include footage, narration, music, sound effects, graphics, photos, game footage, or other material owned or controlled by different parties. You need rights covering the uses you plan to make, including broadcasting the content live on YouTube. Owning the product or having permission to show it does not automatically clear music or other embedded material.

Original footage
If you made the demo, check that you also control or have permission for the audio, visuals, and other included material. If another person or business made it, establish what their license actually allows; permission to post a video in one setting may not cover a livestream, commercial promotion, or monetized use.
Unclear or third-party material
Do not treat a lack of a copyright claim—or a stream continuing without interruption—as proof that the rights are clear. YouTube’s livestream terms make rights clearance the creator’s responsibility. Keep records of licenses and permissions, and resolve unclear material before scheduling a loop.

How can repetition affect monetization?
YouTube says its monetization policies apply to live streams. Its rules consider whether channel content is original and authentic. Reused content without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value may make a channel ineligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy update on July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered.
This is a monetization-policy issue, not a finding that a particular loop is illegal. Nor does permission from a third-party creator guarantee monetization: YouTube’s reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. The cited rules do not predict whether a particular channel or stream will be approved or demonetized.

How should you present a prerecorded demo?
Make the nature of the broadcast clear. YouTube’s spam policy applies across content types and addresses deceptive or repetitive practices. If a video is prerecorded, avoid making viewers believe that product actions, availability, results, or audience interaction are happening in real time. This is a practical way to reduce the risk of misleading viewers; the cited policy does not establish that every unlabeled replay violates it.
- Do not imply that a presenter is responding live if the footage is a recording.
- Do not claim a product is currently available, working in a particular way, or producing a result unless that claim is accurate and supported.
- If the stream repeats, consider making that clear in its title, description, or on-screen presentation rather than suggesting a new live demonstration each time.
What if the demo is sponsored or otherwise commercial?
YouTube’s branded-content policies apply to live streams and require creators to declare paid promotions in Studio. YouTube says creators are ultimately responsible for ensuring disclosure is clear and prominent. Turning on a platform label does not necessarily meet every legal obligation in every jurisdiction.

For streams directed at U.S. audiences
The Federal Trade Commission says endorsements must be truthful and not misleading. Its endorsement guidance says a material connection that could affect how people evaluate an endorsement should be disclosed; examples include payment and receiving a free product. The FTC revised its Endorsement Guides in June 2023. If the presenter has not used the product, they should not describe personal experience they did not have or make claims requiring evidence they lack.
For other territories
Disclosure rules can differ by country and product category. YouTube’s requirement to follow applicable law remains relevant, but U.S. FTC guidance is not a worldwide legal standard. Check the rules that apply to the stream’s audience and the presenter’s location, especially for regulated products or paid endorsements.

Questions to resolve before you schedule the loop
- Identify the territory and audience. Note where the stream will be available and where viewers are being targeted; legal obligations may differ.
- Map the rights chain. Confirm who owns the footage, narration, music, graphics, and other included material, and retain written permissions or licenses for the intended livestream use.
- Review the presentation. Make sure the title, description, and video do not falsely suggest that prerecorded actions or interactions are happening live.
- Check commercial ties. Determine whether the presenter or channel received payment, a free product, or another benefit, then use YouTube’s paid-promotion declaration when applicable and assess any additional disclosure duties.
- Assess monetization separately. Consider whether the channel’s content adds original commentary, substantial modification, or educational or entertainment value; rights clearance alone does not settle YouTube’s reused-content review.
- Review product claims. Ensure statements about features, performance, availability, and results are truthful and supported.
Does the streaming method change the legal answer?
No. Whether you broadcast from a computer or use a cloud service does not itself clear copyright, satisfy advertising disclosures, or guarantee monetization. You remain responsible for the content and how it is presented.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube: upload the demo, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. The streaming setup does not resolve rights, disclosure, or monetization questions, so clear those independently. Start the free day.
