Yes, but only if EA allows your account to be unlinked. You can check eligibility in your EA Account’s Connected Accounts settings, then unlink Steam and sign in with the EA Account you want to use. First consider whether you need anything on the original account: progress, purchases, rewards, and other content do not simply transfer to the new EA Account.
Should you recover the original EA Account or switch?
If your main goal is to get back old progress, purchases, or rewards, try to recover the original EA Account before switching. EA says relinking the platform to the original account may restore access to progress, but it cannot move progress between EA Accounts. Restoration is not guaranteed for every game or entitlement.
| Your situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| You can access the EA Account currently linked to Steam and want a different account | Check Connected Accounts for an available Unlink option, then review EA’s warnings before proceeding. |
| You cannot access the old account, or want to preserve its progress or content | Try EA account recovery first. When launching the game, EA’s linking flow may offer Recover my account. |
| Unlink is unavailable, or the old account is disabled, banned, or suspended | Contact EA Support. Support may be able to advise on the account, but do not assume it can transfer progress or override eligibility. |
How to link Steam to a different EA Account
- Sign in to the EA Account currently linked to Steam and open Connected Accounts. Confirm which Steam account is connected.
- If you want to switch and can access the current EA Account, select Unlink beside Steam. Read EA’s warnings and complete any identity verification it requests.
- Sign in with the EA Account you want to associate with Steam. You may also encounter the linking prompts when starting an EA game on Steam. If you are proceeding with a new link, the prompt may offer Unlink and Create New.
- If the Unlink button is missing or grayed out, check EA’s linking troubleshooting guidance and contact EA Support if your account’s eligibility remains unclear.
EA says you only need to link your accounts the first time you play an EA game on Steam. Its account-linking instructions describe the game-start prompts and recovery options.
What happens to progress and content after unlinking?
Do not treat unlinking as a transfer. EA warns that changing the linked EA Account does not move game progress, DLC or expansions, memberships or subscriptions, drops and rewards, or in-game purchases to the new account. EA’s Steam-specific guidance says entitlements such as in-game rewards, points, and items remain on the EA Account first linked to that Steam account. EA also says, “You can’t move your games or personas to another account yourself.”

If you have already lost access to progress, EA’s lost-progress guidance says relinking to the original EA Account may restore access. That is a possible recovery route, not a promise for every game or item. Contact EA Support before unlinking if you are considering an account merge.
How EA’s switching eligibility guidance differs
EA’s published help pages do not give a single, fully explained rule for every account. Its current unlink and linking pages say players can switch linked accounts up to 3 times in a rolling year (EA, 2026). However, EA’s troubleshooting page says switching may not be available if the platform account was linked less than one year ago, and says users should be able to switch if it was linked more than one year ago. The pages do not explain how these statements interact in every case.

Use the Unlink option in your own Connected Accounts settings as the practical eligibility check. EA says a grayed-out button means the account is not eligible to relink. Disabled, banned, or suspended accounts also cannot be unlinked, according to its troubleshooting guidance.
