An August 29, 2024 update added mass substitutions to Online and Offline Dynasty games when you play against the AI. The option swaps an entire unit: it puts in the full second unit when your starters are playing, or restores the full starting group when the second unit is on the field. EA’s update notes do not specify the menu path.
What mass substitutions do in College Football 25
EA’s August 29, 2024 title update says it “Enabled Mass Subs for Online and Offline Dynasty games when playing against the AI.” This is a whole-unit swap, not a way to select arbitrary players or positions one by one.

The published scope is limited to those Dynasty games against AI opponents. The update does not establish that mass subs are available in other modes or against human-controlled opponents.
Where to find the option
EA’s update notes confirm the feature but do not document its exact menu sequence. An EA Forums community report says the option is under the coaching tab after backups enter the game. Treat that as a player-reported tip rather than an official instruction; availability or labels may depend on the mode and game state.

How this differs from formation substitutions
If you only want to change personnel for a particular formation—for example, use a different running back—you can make an individual formation substitution instead. An EA Forums response describes opening formation selection, pressing Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox, then choosing the player to replace and the player to insert. That changes the selected formation; it does not swap the entire unit.
Mass subs are not automatic fatigue substitutions
College Football 25 also manages playing time based on fatigue and player condition. In its gameplay deep dive, EA describes Wear and Tear as a system that can affect attributes and injury risk. EA says players recover off the field, during timeouts and halftime, and between weeks. It also explains that, outside the quarterback and offensive line, the game substitutes around fatigue or a banged-up body part; a player who takes a bad hit may sit for a play or two, or longer. Those are automatic condition-based substitutions, not the full-unit mass-sub command.

Don’t use College Football 26 controls as a guide
College Football 26 has a separate Dynamic Subs system. EA’s June 20, 2025 gameplay deep dive describes on-field substitutions using the D-pad, unit filters, and a reset-to-starters action. Those later-game controls are not instructions for College Football 25.
