Can Xbox and PC players play A Way Out together?
No. EA’s Friend Pass instructions say invitations are limited to friends playing on the same type of platform, and Microsoft’s Xbox listing specifies that an online friend must have A Way Out on the same platform or have the Friends Pass trial installed. Buying the game on both Xbox and PC does not make the two versions compatible for online co-op. The supported online pairing is same-platform, such as Xbox with Xbox or PC with PC.

No. Friend Pass is a way for an invited friend on the same type of platform to try the game without owning a full copy; it is not a cross-play feature. The owner sends an invitation from the game’s main menu through the device friends list, and the invited friend accepts and uses the free trial. Follow the current in-game and platform prompts, since older instructions about where to download the trial may no longer match current store navigation. EA Help · EA’s Friend Pass announcement

What do you need for online co-op?
Microsoft’s Xbox listing says online co-op requires a persistent internet connection, an EA account, and one online friend who owns the game on the same platform or has the Friends Pass free trial installed. EA Help currently says Xbox Friend Pass play requires Xbox Game Pass Core; PlayStation Friend Pass play requires PlayStation Plus. For online play, choose a platform both players can use: both Xbox or both PC. If you cannot match platforms, the supported alternative listed for Xbox is local co-op with both players sharing the same console; it does not connect an Xbox player to a remote PC player.
