Can You Play Borderlands 4 Early With the New Zealand Trick?

No. The New Zealand trick is no longer a way to get an early start on Borderlands 4: the game has already launched, so its regional head start is over. You can now play on a supported platform by accessing the game through the storefront or edition you own.

Why the New Zealand trick no longer works

The trick refers to trying to access a game earlier by changing a region or time-zone setting. For Borderlands 4, that would have mattered only before its regional launch window had passed. 2K’s current out-now announcement confirms the game is available; changing your settings now cannot recreate that expired head start. The publisher’s pages reviewed do not document the exact historical steps or confirm that the method was supported on each storefront, so there is no reliable basis here for giving platform-specific instructions.

2K announced September 12, 2025 as the release date for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its later out-now notice lists those platforms and PC storefronts Steam and the Epic Games Store. 2K’s release-date announcement and out-now notice provide the dates and availability.

Where you can play Borderlands 4 now

• PC: Steam or the Epic Games Store.
• PlayStation: PlayStation 5.
• Xbox: Xbox Series X|S.
• Nintendo Switch 2: 2K gave October 3, 2025 as the release date. That date has passed. The out-now notice is more current than the publisher FAQ’s older “coming soon” wording.

For the Switch 2 date and current platform list, use 2K’s out-now announcement. The official FAQ also confirms the main platforms and says physical editions are offered for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; editions and availability vary by region.

How to access the game you own

1. Check which platform and storefront your copy is for: Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2.
2. Open that platform’s library or store and locate Borderlands 4.
3. Install or launch the game using the platform’s normal controls. If it is not available in your library, verify that you are signed into the account that owns the correct edition and that the edition matches your platform.

Buying a copy? Check platform and edition first

2K lists standard, deluxe, and super deluxe editions, but the material available here does not establish their current prices, exact contents, local stock, or specific retailer listings. Confirm the edition and platform compatibility with the seller before purchase. Physical copies are an option for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, subject to regional availability; PC access is through Steam or the Epic Games Store.

2K’s FAQ is the relevant publisher reference for edition availability. If you are looking at a physical listing, check that it is for your console and region rather than relying on a generic product title.
