Usually, no. Buying an EA game on Xbox does not normally include the Windows PC version. The main exception is a digital game marked Xbox Play Anywhere: Microsoft says one purchase covers both Xbox and Windows PC. Otherwise, you will need a separate PC purchase, subscription access, or—in some cases—cloud streaming.
What your Xbox purchase does—and does not—include
“Bought on Xbox” can mean several different things, and they do not all grant the same access. A digital Xbox Store purchase is eligible for PC access only when that specific title supports Xbox Play Anywhere. A physical Xbox disc is not a Windows PC license, and Xbox disc ownership does not qualify for Play Anywhere. A game you access through EA Play or Game Pass is subscription access, not a permanent purchase. Free-to-play games are different again: their PC versions can be downloaded without transferring a paid Xbox license.

The Xbox Play Anywhere exception
Xbox Play Anywhere is Microsoft’s cross-buy program, not a general rule for Xbox games or EA games. For a participating digital title, one purchase lets you install and play the Xbox console and Windows PC versions without buying the game again. Xbox says the versions can share supported saves, add-ons and achievements, and the title is associated with the same Microsoft/Xbox account. Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the game’s Xbox Store or Microsoft Store listing. The feature is for participating digital games; owning a disc does not qualify. Even when a game is eligible, your PC must meet its system requirements.

How to check your specific EA game
- Open the game’s listing in the Xbox app for Windows or Microsoft Store and check for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge or wording that confirms PC play.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased the digital game.
- Open the Xbox app and check My Library. Xbox says eligible Play Anywhere games appear there for the purchasing account.
- If the game does not appear as installable and its PC listing asks for payment, do not assume your Xbox purchase covers it. Check the game’s official EA or Xbox support information for its platform entitlements.
- Before buying or installing another version, check that title’s own cross-progression rules if you want to keep your saves or items.
Do not treat all EA titles alike: eligibility is title-specific. Xbox’s current program information is at xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-play-anywhere.
Does linking your EA Account unlock the PC copy?
No, not by itself. Linking an Xbox account to an EA Account connects identities for EA services and can support rewards or progress in games that offer cross-progression. It does not normally convert an Xbox license into an EA app, Steam, or other PC-store license. EA explains account linking at its account-linking help page.
- License: whether you have the right to launch a particular version of the game.
- Account linking: connecting platform accounts to an EA Account.
- Cross-progression: whether progress, unlocks or items carry between platforms.
- Cross-play: whether players on different platforms can play together.
These are separate features. A game can support cross-play or cross-progression while still requiring separate Xbox and PC purchases.

Will your saves, DLC and purchases transfer?
For an Xbox Play Anywhere title
Microsoft says supported saves, add-ons and achievements carry between the Xbox and PC versions of participating Play Anywhere games. The benefit depends on the title being part of the program; it is not a general guarantee for every EA game.

Progress depends on the individual game and the accounts involved. EA’s cross-play and cross-progression guidance directs players to game-specific rules. Some modes, currencies, purchases or progression systems may not carry between platforms. Xbox DLC should not be assumed to unlock PC DLC outside a qualifying Play Anywhere entitlement; check the PC edition and storefront before purchasing add-ons.
Use the EA Account already associated with your Xbox profile. EA warns that changing or unlinking accounts can have consequences, including loss of access to progress or content. Review EA’s account-linking guidance before changing a connection.

A free-to-play exception: Apex Legends
Apex Legends does not require transferring a paid Xbox license: you can download its PC version for free. EA says Apex supports cross-progression across PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2 when the relevant accounts are associated with the EA Account. Progress and cosmetics may carry over under those requirements; unlinking can cause loss of access to progress and content. See EA’s Apex Legends cross-progression instructions. This free-to-play case does not mean paid EA games transfer between Xbox and PC.
Can EA Play or Game Pass give you PC access?
EA Play purchased on Xbox
Not automatically. EA says membership benefits are tied to the platform where the membership was purchased. An Xbox EA Play membership does not simply become PC EA Play; the PC version generally requires PC access through the relevant membership or storefront. Check EA’s EA Play FAQ for current platform details and regional terms.
PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
EA says PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate include EA Play access on PC for eligible games, with the EA app required. That can let you play a PC version while your subscription qualifies and the title remains included; it does not turn your Xbox purchase into a permanent PC entitlement. The catalog and regional availability can change. EA’s setup guidance is at EA Play and Xbox Game Pass.

- Sign in to the Xbox app for Windows with the Microsoft account that has PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- Install or open the EA app.
- Connect the Xbox account to the EA Account when prompted, making sure it is the EA Account you intend to keep using.
- Find an eligible EA Play PC title and install it through the EA app.
EA’s FAQ displayed EA Play at $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year when consulted; this is a price signal, not a guarantee of current or regional checkout pricing. Check the current offer before subscribing. Membership access remains distinct from buying the PC game.

Buy the PC edition separately
A separate purchase through the EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store or another authorized PC storefront is the clearest route to a lasting PC entitlement when the Xbox title is not Play Anywhere. It may mean paying again, and the PC save or DLC entitlement may still differ by game and storefront.
Use PC subscription access
PC Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate or EA Play on PC may be worthwhile if you want access to several eligible games. The trade-off is that access depends on an active, eligible subscription and a changing catalog; it is not ownership. Confirm that the exact title is included in your region before subscribing.

Stream the Xbox version
Xbox cloud gaming may let you stream some supported Xbox games to a PC, subject to title, region, device, account and subscription availability. The game runs remotely rather than as a locally installed Windows version, so streaming is not a PC license. Internet quality can affect responsiveness and image quality, and PC-specific features such as mods or advanced graphics settings may not be available. Troubleshooting common problems
The game appears in the Xbox app but will not install
- Check whether the listing offers cloud play only rather than a native PC installation.
- Confirm that the game is Play Anywhere or that you have PC subscription access; console ownership alone may not include a PC license.
- Some PC access may be delivered through the EA app rather than installed directly from Xbox.
- Verify your Game Pass tier and that the game is currently included for your region.
- Check the PC’s system requirements for the game.
The EA app signs into the wrong account
Check EA Account settings under Connected Accounts and confirm which EA Account is linked to your Xbox profile. Do not create another EA Account just because an initial sign-in fails. Verify the email associated with the Xbox profile; if the console is linked to an inaccessible EA Account, contact EA Support before unlinking anything. EA account links can be restricted, and unlinking is not a safe way to preserve progress or purchases.
Progress did not carry over
Check the game’s own cross-progression instructions, then verify that the Xbox and PC platforms are linked to the same EA Account. A title may lack cross-progression, use separate systems between versions, or keep some modes, currencies or purchases platform-specific. EA’s game-specific starting point is its cross-play and cross-progression help.
DLC is missing on PC
First confirm that the game qualifies for Play Anywhere and that the DLC is an eligible add-on for that title. Outside Play Anywhere, check the PC storefront’s edition and DLC listing: an Xbox add-on should not be assumed to grant the corresponding PC content.
