Yes. Another local user can play eligible digital games bought by an account on the same console, provided the purchasing account enables the console’s sharing setting: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or Primary PS4 activation on PS4. This shares access on that console; it does not transfer ownership or let the other account play the game on any console.
Share a purchased game on PS5
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that bought the game.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
- Download the game on the PS5 if it is not already installed. Switch to the other local user and launch it.
Sony says other users of a PS5 with this setting enabled can play the purchasing account’s purchased and downloaded games even when the console is offline. Sony’s PS5 sharing guide says the feature is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in. An account can have it enabled on only one PS5 at a time; if it is active on another console, disable it there before enabling it on the one you want to use.

Share a purchased game on PS4
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that bought the game.
- Open Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.
- Select Activate.
- Download the game if needed, then switch to the other local user and launch it.
Sony’s primary PS4 guide says users on an account’s primary PS4 can access applications that account purchased from PlayStation Store. Each account can activate one PS4 as its primary console.
What sharing does—and does not—cover
The setting belongs to the account that purchased the game, and access is limited to users on the console where that account enabled sharing. It does not move the purchase to another account. Sony also says games and PlayStation Plus benefits cannot be shared with a friend on a different console through this feature.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
PlayStation Plus access is separate from owning a game. Sony allows selected Plus benefits to be shared on one enabled PS5 and one primary PS4, but excludes benefits such as online storage, redeeming Plus games on another account, and buying discounted PlayStation Store products. Which catalog games are available depends on the membership plan. See Sony’s Plus benefits sharing guide.
If the game came from PlayStation Plus rather than a direct purchase, access can depend on an active subscription and whether the title is still available to you. A monthly or catalog game should not be treated as a permanently owned purchase; Sony’s PS5 sharing and troubleshooting guide advises checking subscription status and game availability.

If the other account cannot launch the game
- Verify the owner: Check that the signed-in account is the one that bought the game, including its transaction history.
- Check console activation: Confirm that account has enabled Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 or activated that PS4 as its primary console.
- Check installation: Make sure the game is downloaded on the console.
- Check entitlement: For a Plus game, confirm the subscription is active and the title remains available.
- Investigate a padlock: Sony says a lock icon may indicate a license or network issue. Follow the account, sharing, and license/network checks in its PS5 troubleshooting guidance.
If activation is blocked because the old console is inaccessible, Sony provides an option to remotely deactivate all devices. That remote all-device deactivation can be used only once every six months, so use it carefully. See the PS5 sharing guide or PS4 activation guide for the relevant steps.
