Yes—community-built versions of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City can run in a browser, but “everywhere” is too broad. Each port has its own file requirements, browser features and controls, and a successful test on one phone does not guarantee it will work on every device. These are unofficial projects, not browser releases from Rockstar Games.
How the browser ports get the game files
The setup depends on the project. Some browser ports expect you to supply game data; others read files from an installed copy. They do not all provide the same game content or use the same workflow.

Joncodeofficial: import an archive
Joncodeofficial’s GTA: Vice City WASM Port asks users to import a game.tar.gz archive. The repository describes that archive as about 668 MB compressed. The port extracts the files in a web worker and stores the extracted data in browser storage; its live page says the data remains until browser storage is cleared. This is a requirement of that implementation, not a universal browser-port requirement.
The project describes an engine compiled from C++ to WebAssembly with Emscripten. It uses the Origin Private File System (OPFS) for local storage and a service worker to serve files. Check the project’s current instructions before importing anything, and use only game data you are legally permitted to use.

wasm-revc: use files from an installed copy
The separate wasm-revc project says it reads assets from a user’s installed game copy and does not distribute game data. Its repository describes a WebAssembly build using WebGL 2, browser-based save storage and gamepad support. That is a different workflow from importing Joncodeofficial’s archive.
wasm-revc reproduces a caution from the reVC project: “We don’t feel like we’re in a position to give this code a license. The code should only be used for educational, documentation and modding purposes. We do not encourage piracy or commercial use. Please keep derivate work open source and give proper credit.” This is a statement reproduced by wasm-revc, not a legal ruling about these projects.

Browser, device and control support varies
For Joncodeofficial’s port, the repository recommends Chrome 110 or later, Firefox 111 or later, or Safari 16.4 or later, with WebAssembly, OPFS and service-worker support. Its live page recommends a modern desktop browser for the smoothest setup and performance. These are project-specific recommendations; other ports may have different requirements.
Tom’s Hardware reported on September 7, 2026, that its test of the Quenq-hosted port loaded and ran on a OnePlus 12. The report describes keyboard-and-mouse, controller and touchscreen controls, with the touch layout usable in portrait or landscape orientation. That is one publication’s test on one phone, not a guarantee for other devices, browsers or versions. See Tom’s Hardware’s report for its account.

The same report says the Quenq port offers an FPS limit because unlocked frame rates can sometimes cause bugs and physics problems. If you encounter erratic behavior, try the cap offered by that implementation rather than assuming every browser version behaves alike.
Are these official Rockstar releases?
No. Vice City Online describes itself as an independent, fan-run portal and says it is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two. It also notes that browser and device behavior can change as browsers and engines change. Its disclaimer identifies the game’s names and marks as belonging to their rights holders.
There is also a history of a browser project being removed. Tom’s Hardware reported that a representative acting for the franchise owner sought removal of the DOS Zone browser project, including its demo. The report quoted a notice calling the project unauthorized and infringing, and arguing that inviting users to enter data or keys from original copies could facilitate unauthorized use and might constitute circumvention. Those are allegations attributed to the rights-holder’s representative in the report; the sources cited here do not establish a court finding or settle the legal status of other ports or jurisdictions. The reported notice is not a ruling that every browser implementation has the same status.

What to check before you try one
- Read the specific project’s instructions. Confirm whether it expects an archive, an installed game copy or another setup.
- Check browser features and version. A browser that can open the page may still lack a feature the port needs, such as OPFS or service workers.
- Confirm the controls you want. Touch and gamepad support reported for one port should not be assumed for another.
- Consider browser storage. For Joncodeofficial’s port, clearing browser storage removes the imported data according to its live page.
- Use only game files you are legally permitted to use. Supplying files yourself does not by itself determine the legal status of a particular port.
The original PC edition was announced as shipped by Take-Two on May 12, 2003. In that announcement, Rockstar Games president Sam Houser said, “We hope PC players will enjoy all the 80’s style, music, and sensibility that resonate throughout the game and appreciate the extra effort we have put into creating the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.” The announcement documents the PC release, but it does not establish current store availability or answer whether any particular browser port is authorized.
