Yes—but through a community port, not official Xbox Live. The RG35XX H has a community port of Halo: Combat Evolved that supports local-network system-link games and internet play through invite links. The port does not include Halo’s game data, does not turn the handheld into an Xbox emulator, and does not connect to official Xbox matchmaking.
To use it, you need a supported RG35XX H firmware and port-installation path, your own legally obtained Xbox Halo CE ISO or XISO, and roughly 3 GB of free storage for the supplied image, extracted files and cache. The project’s documentation describes multiplayer with Linux, Windows and Android machines, but the exact handheld firmware and game mode still matter.

What the RG35XX H Halo port actually is
This is a community-maintained port of the original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved. It is separate from running Halo through an Xbox emulator and separate from Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The port supplies the executable and supporting files, while you provide the original game image used during setup.
The project documentation describes two networking methods: system-link play on a local network and remote play through an internet invite link. No project-operated matchmaking server is required. That does not mean the handheld joins Xbox Live; the multiplayer connection is implemented by the community port itself.

Compatibility at a glance
| Device or software combination | What is established | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| RG35XX H with Knulli Gladiator II | Identified as a tested handheld and firmware combination in a recent device-specific report. | The report did not personally verify every multiplayer mode on the handheld. |
| RG35XX H with PortMaster on muOS 2601 Jacaranda | Identified as another tested installation combination. | Use the project’s current package notes; community packages and firmware support can change. |
| RG35XX H on another firmware or an unlisted build | Compatibility is not established by the available documentation. | Do not assume that a package working on one firmware will work unchanged on another. |
| Other similarly named handhelds | Not automatically covered. | The project specifically targets the RG35XX H/H700 family; confirm the exact model before installing. |
The upstream project documentation is the authority for the current package and firmware procedure. The combinations above describe reported testing, not a guarantee of identical results on every revision, storage card or network.
What you need before installing
- An RG35XX H: Confirm the exact hardware model and the firmware currently installed.
- A supported software path: The project documents installation through Knulli or PortMaster. The package and menu names can change between releases.
- Your own Xbox Halo CE ISO or XISO: The project does not include the game data. Use a copy you are legally entitled to use in your jurisdiction.
- Free storage: Keep about 3 GB available for the supplied port image, extracted map files and cache. This is a practical recommendation from the device-specific report, not a promise that every future release will use exactly that amount.
- Network access for multiplayer: Local play requires the participating machines to share a local network. Internet invite-link play requires a reachable host and a stable connection.
- A backup of your card: Firmware and port installations can alter folders or boot files. Back up anything important before changing the system.
Installation procedure
The exact archive name, folder location and menu labels belong to the current project release. Follow those release notes for the package-specific details; the sequence below explains what each stage is doing and what to verify.
- Check the firmware first. In the RG35XX H system information screen, record whether you are using Knulli, muOS or another firmware. If you intend to use the reported muOS route, the cited combination is muOS 2601 Jacaranda with PortMaster. If you intend to use Knulli, the cited report names Knulli Gladiator II. Do not substitute an unlisted build and assume the same result.
- Back up the microSD card. Copy your ROMs, saves and configuration files to another device. A failed firmware update or an incorrect package path is easier to recover from when the original files are preserved.
- Install or open the supported port-management path. Use the project’s current Knulli installation instructions or its PortMaster instructions for muOS. Install the current Halo CE package exactly where that documentation specifies; do not rename files unless the release notes tell you to.
- Prepare the game image. When the installer asks for game data, select the Xbox Halo CE ISO or XISO that you supply. The port’s documentation says this image is used to extract the map files needed by the port. It does not download those files for you.
- Leave enough free space for extraction. Keep roughly 3 GB free before starting. If the card is nearly full, the initial extraction or cache creation can fail even when the package itself appears to fit.
- Complete the first launch without interruption. Start the game from the firmware’s applications or ports menu and allow the extraction process to finish. Do not power off the handheld or remove the card while map files are being created. The first launch can take longer than later launches because the data is being prepared.
- Verify a local single-player launch. Start the game and confirm that it reaches the main menu before troubleshooting networking. This separates an image, extraction or firmware problem from a multiplayer connection problem.
- Test multiplayer only after the local launch works. Decide whether you are testing same-network system link or a remote invite link. Have every participant use a compatible build and the same game-data expectations before attempting to connect.
How multiplayer works
| Route | Network arrangement | What the project documents | Main uncertainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local system link | Players’ machines are on the same local network. | The port supports system-link games over a local network. Linux, Windows and Android machines can participate when running a compatible version. | The exact number of players you can run smoothly on an RG35XX H depends on the build and network; the project’s maximum is not a handheld performance test. |
| Internet invite link | Players connect remotely over the internet through an invite link. | The upstream documentation describes invite-link play and says no project server is needed. | Host reachability, connection quality and the precise handheld build determine whether a session is usable. |
Local-network play
Use this route when the handheld and the other players’ computers or phones can join the same network. Start the port on each machine, create or join the system-link session according to the project’s current menu instructions, and verify that every participant is using a compatible release. A local session avoids dependence on a remote host, but it still requires the devices to see one another on the same network.

Internet invite-link play
For remote players, use the project’s invite-link mechanism rather than looking for an Xbox Live sign-in or a universal matchmaking list. The host creates an invite and shares it with the other players. Because there is no project server relaying the session, the host’s reachability and the quality of the participants’ internet connections matter. If the handheld can launch the game but cannot join, first test a local session to determine whether the problem is networking rather than installation.
The documented player limit
Halo CE Universal project documentation, accessed in 2026, states a capability of 128 players on up to 128 machines. That is the project’s documented upper limit, not an independently measured result on the RG35XX H. It should not be read as a promise that a handheld can host or render a 128-player game comfortably. The available device-specific report had not personally tried hosting or online campaign co-op on the handheld at the time it was written.
What has and has not been verified on the handheld
The recent RG35XX H report is useful for identifying firmware combinations, but its limits matter. It names Knulli Gladiator II and PortMaster on muOS 2601 Jacaranda as tested combinations. It distinguishes joining public matches from hosting and online campaign co-op, and says hosting and online campaign co-op had not been personally tested on the handheld at that time.

Therefore, a careful claim is: the port documents local system link and internet invite-link functionality, and the RG35XX H has reported installation paths. A stronger claim—such as guaranteed hosting, guaranteed online campaign co-op, or guaranteed performance with a particular number of players—goes beyond the available evidence. Check the current project notes for the exact package and firmware you plan to use.

The practical storage target is about 3 GB of free space for the supplied image, extracted game data and cache. Treat that as free space, not as the total capacity of the card. Your firmware, ROM collection, saves and artwork also need room, and future package versions may change the amount required.
A microSD card is optional as a purchase: it is useful only if the card already in the RG35XX H lacks sufficient free capacity or you want a separate installation. No particular card brand, speed rating or model has been established as tested for this port. Choose based on capacity and compatibility with your handheld rather than assuming a named model is required.

Troubleshooting by symptom
The port does not appear in the menu
- Confirm that the package was installed through the correct Knulli or PortMaster path for your firmware.
- Recheck the project’s current folder and naming instructions; do not rely on paths from an older release.
- Make sure the device is actually an RG35XX H/H700-family model covered by the package.
- If you changed firmware, reinstall or reconfigure the port using that firmware’s current instructions rather than copying an old installation blindly.
First launch stops during extraction
- Check that the supplied ISO or XISO is an Xbox Halo CE image accepted by the project, rather than a different Halo release or a partial file.
- Free additional storage beyond the approximately 3 GB recommendation and retry.
- Confirm that the card is not being disconnected or mounted read-only during extraction.
- Restore the backup if the card was interrupted, then repeat the installation from a clean package according to the current release notes.
The game reaches the menu but multiplayer cannot find a session
- Test two devices on the same local network first. A successful local test shows that the port and extracted data are functional.
- Confirm that all participants are running compatible project versions and have completed their own initial extraction.
- For an invite-link session, verify that the host generated a current invite and that the remote players are joining through that link, not searching for Xbox Live matchmaking.
- Remember that the documentation’s no-server design makes host reachability and connection quality important.
Joining works, but hosting or campaign co-op does not
Do not treat this as proof that the installation is broken. The device-specific report had not personally verified hosting or online campaign co-op on the handheld. Check current project notes, test the same mode on a supported computer or phone if available, and report the exact handheld firmware and port version when seeking help.
A firmware update broke the port
Community ports are tied to package layouts and firmware behavior that can change. Restore your backup if necessary, read the current project installation notes for the new firmware, and reinstall the current package instead of assuming that an older extracted directory remains valid.

Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The game-data requirement is also separate from the port software. Because the project does not include Halo’s original data, you must supply an ISO or XISO you are entitled to use. The port extracts the map files during setup; it is not a substitute for obtaining the game legally.
Decision checklist
- Choose this route if you want a community-built Halo CE experience on the RG35XX H and are comfortable managing firmware-specific packages.
- Use local system link when all players can join the same network and you want the simplest connection test.
- Use an internet invite link for remote play, but do not expect an official matchmaking browser or a project-hosted relay server.
- Plan for about 3 GB of free space and keep a backup before changing firmware or installing ports.
- Expect the strongest compatibility evidence for the reported Knulli Gladiator II and muOS 2601 Jacaranda plus PortMaster combinations; treat other builds as unconfirmed until current project notes say otherwise.
- Do not advertise the documented 128-player figure as an RG35XX H benchmark, and do not assume that hosting or online campaign co-op has been verified on the handheld.
Bottom line
The RG35XX H can play Halo: Combat Evolved online through a community port that supports local system-link sessions and internet invite links. It is not official Xbox Live, it requires your own Xbox game image and several gigabytes of free storage, and the safest installation path is the current Knulli or PortMaster guidance for your exact firmware. Local multiplayer is the clearest first test; hosting, online campaign co-op and large player counts remain subject to the specific handheld build and should not be treated as guaranteed.
