You can reduce gambling ads served by YouTube through Google My Ad Center, block or report individual ads, and use SponsorBlock to skip creator segments where data exists. No viewer setting removes every betting ad or a sponsorship read into a video or live stream; those are separate types of promotion.
Start by identifying the kind of gambling promotion
The fix depends on who put the promotion in the video. YouTube delivers some advertising around or inside a video through its advertising system. A creator may also read a betting message, show a sponsor graphic, place a referral code in the description, or take a live-stream ad break. The second category is part of the creator’s content, not an ad impression that YouTube can simply switch off.

That distinction explains why changing an ad preference can stop one kind of betting message while a streamer’s spoken advertisement continues unchanged.

My Ad Center is the main account-level control for reducing gambling-topic ads. It applies when you are signed in to the Google Account you use with YouTube. Google describes gambling as a sensitive topic that viewers can limit. The wording and location of the controls can change, so look for the current customization page rather than relying on an old screenshot.

- Sign in to the correct Google Account. Open YouTube while signed in, then open Google’s My Ad Center from your account or an ad’s options menu. If you use several accounts or a family device, check the profile before changing anything.
- Open ad customization. Choose the section for sensitive topics or ad categories. The gambling control may be labelled See fewer or use equivalent wording after an interface update.
- Choose Gambling and confirm. Apply the reduction and allow the account setting to save. This is a topic limit, not a blocklist of every advertiser, domain or phrase.
- Repeat on other Google Accounts. The setting follows the signed-in account. A different account, a signed-out browser, or another household member’s profile can still receive different ads.
For this topic-level control to be available, ad personalization generally needs to remain enabled. The UK Gambling Commission’s guidance, updated 22 October 2024, specifically warns that turning personalization off removes the topic-level “See fewer” control. Google’s own explanation also treats sensitive-topic limits as part of personalized ad choices.
What “See fewer” actually does
Google says the control limits gambling ads; it does not promise that none will appear. The system uses signals such as searches and the videos you watch. The Gambling Commission cautions that searching for gambling or watching related videos can still result in gambling advertising even after the category is reduced. Treat the setting as a reduction in targeting, not a content filter or parental-control guarantee.
Block or report a particular gambling ad
A topic preference cannot identify every unsuitable ad. When a specific ad appears, open its More or Info menu and choose Block ad, if that option is offered. YouTube says this individual-ad control requires you to have chosen to customize ads in My Ad Center. Blocking is useful for a repeat advertiser, but it does not block every gambling advertiser or prevent a different campaign from being selected later.
Use Report ad when the creative is inappropriate or appears to violate Google’s advertising policies. YouTube provides reporting on both mobile and computer. Select the reason that best describes the problem and submit it; reporting sends the ad for policy review rather than merely hiding it from your account.

- Block is a personal relevance control for that ad or advertiser where the option is available.
- Report is appropriate for suspected policy violations, misleading claims or inappropriate material.
- Neither action removes a creator’s spoken sponsorship from a video.
Why turning off personalized ads is not a gambling blocker
You can disable personalized advertising as a broader privacy decision, but that setting does not turn advertising off. Google says ads will continue; they may simply be less relevant because they are not selected using the same personalization signals. You also lose the topic-specific gambling reduction control described above. If your priority is fewer betting ads, leaving personalization on and selecting the gambling limit gives you a narrower control. If your priority is reducing use of personal data for ad selection, turning personalization off is the broader choice, with the trade-off that it cannot target gambling as a topic.
The account setting applies where you are signed in. It does not automatically change an ad system used by another account, an embedded player, or a device on which you are browsing while signed out.
Understand creator sponsorships and YouTube’s disclosure label
YouTube’s branded-content policy covers paid promotions in videos, descriptions, comments, live streams, Shorts and other YouTube features. When a creator declares a paid promotion, YouTube adds a disclosure label. YouTube Help states that the disclosure appears for 10 seconds at the beginning of a video. That ten-second display describes the notice, not how long the betting segment lasts and not how often creators include such promotions.

Does YouTube Premium remove gambling sponsorships?
Premium is designed to remove YouTube-served advertising interruptions for the membership account. It does not necessarily remove branded content that a creator has added directly to a video or stream. A Premium viewer can therefore see a streamer’s betting segment, sponsor overlay or verbal endorsement even when platform-served pre-roll and mid-roll ads are absent.
Use Premium only if its broader ad-free viewing benefits suit you; do not buy it expecting a universal gambling-sponsorship filter. The distinction is the same on a recorded upload and a live broadcast: Premium affects the platform’s ad delivery, while the creator’s production remains part of the media you chose to watch.
Use SponsorBlock for recorded sponsor segments
SponsorBlock is a third-party, software-based option for supported clients. It uses sponsor-segment data submitted by users and can skip a marked segment in a video. If a gambling read has not been submitted, is marked inaccurately, or appears in a client that does not support SponsorBlock, it will play normally.

What it can do
- Skip a submitted sponsor segment in a compatible browser setup or supported mobile/Android integration.
- Reduce manual scrubbing when a channel repeatedly places its sponsor message in a marked portion of recorded uploads.
- Let you treat creator promotions separately from YouTube’s ad system.
What it cannot promise
- It does not cover every gambling promotion, every upload or every channel.
- Coverage depends on community-submitted segment data and the client you use.
- The available documentation does not establish reliable, universal skipping for live streams.
- It is not an official YouTube feature and cannot change the underlying video for viewers who do not use a compatible client.
For a recorded video, check that your browser extension or mobile client supports SponsorBlock, enable sponsor skipping, and keep expectations realistic: an unsubmitted or newly uploaded segment will not be recognized automatically. For a live stream, do not assume that a recorded-segment database can identify a promotion while it is happening; the documented coverage does not establish that behavior.

Can you skip gambling promotions in a live stream?
There is no universal YouTube viewer switch that removes a creator-read gambling promotion from a live broadcast. YouTube’s branded-content rules explicitly include live streams, so a disclosure can identify paid content, but the notice does not suppress the host’s words, graphics or ad break.
Your practical choices are limited to the controls supported by the particular client and broadcast:
- Mute the stream during the segment if you want to keep watching the event.
- Leave the stream or choose another channel when the promotion begins.
- Use a client with documented segment-skipping support only where it explicitly handles live content; the available SponsorBlock documentation does not establish dependable live-stream skipping.
- Report a separate YouTube-served ad if it is inappropriate or appears to breach policy; reporting the ad does not report the creator’s sponsorship itself.

Troubleshoot when gambling ads keep appearing
The Gambling control is missing
Confirm that you are signed in and that ad personalization is enabled. The topic-level control may not be offered when personalization is off. Also check that you opened My Ad Center for the same Google Account that is active in YouTube.

The setting is not a guarantee of zero gambling ads. Avoiding gambling searches and related videos may reduce signals that can lead to such ads, but the platform can still serve an ad that falls outside the category match or is selected through other contextual signals. Use the individual Block or Report menu on the ad when available.

Premium removed pre-roll ads, but the streamer still promoted betting
That is expected behavior for creator-added content. Premium targets platform-served interruptions; it does not remove a sponsor message recorded or broadcast by the channel.
SponsorBlock did not skip the segment
Check whether your client supports SponsorBlock and whether the upload has a submitted segment. New, unmarked or incorrectly marked sponsor sections will not be skipped. A live stream may not be supported for this purpose, and the available documentation does not promise universal live handling.
Another device still shows gambling advertising
Check the account and sign-in state on that device. My Ad Center settings are tied to the Google Account, while a signed-out session or another profile can receive different ad selections.
What the available evidence does—and does not—show
Google and YouTube document the account controls, ad menus, Premium distinction and branded-content disclosures. The UK Gambling Commission’s 22 October 2024 guidance provides the practical path to the Gambling category and warns about continued ads after related searches or viewing. SponsorBlock’s project documentation describes submitted segments and supported integrations, but it does not establish a measured gambling-specific removal rate or dependable live-stream coverage.
No published figure in these sources measures the percentage reduction produced by My Ad Center, the share of YouTube promotions embedded by creators, or SponsorBlock’s coverage of gambling segments. Avoid treating any setting as a tested removal percentage. Google Safety Center’s general privacy principle is that users should have control over advertising choices; that principle is not a promise that gambling promotions can be eliminated completely.
Recommended setup for a viewer who wants the fewest betting promotions
- Stay signed in to the Google Account you actually use for YouTube.
- Leave ad personalization enabled if you want the topic-specific control, then set Gambling to See fewer in My Ad Center.
- Block repeat served ads and report those that seem inappropriate or policy-violating.
- Recognize the paid-promotion disclosure before starting a video or stream, and leave or mute when the creator’s own sponsorship begins.
- For recorded uploads, use SponsorBlock only as an optional layer in a supported client and expect gaps in coverage.
- Recheck the controls after major interface changes, because Google’s labels and navigation can change.
This combination addresses the two different sources of gambling promotion without pretending that one switch can control both.
