No. Minecraft: Java Edition does not run natively on Xbox consoles. Xbox uses Minecraft: Bedrock Edition; to play Java, you need a supported Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. The two editions cannot join each other’s multiplayer games.
Why Java Edition does not work on Xbox
Minecraft lists Xbox consoles as Bedrock platforms, while Java Edition is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Choose the edition that matches where you want to play

How to play with friends
If you want to play on Xbox
- Launch Minecraft on your Xbox. The Xbox version is Bedrock Edition.
- Join a Bedrock world, server, or Realm, and make sure your friends are also playing Bedrock on a supported platform.
- For online multiplayer on Xbox, check the current console subscription terms. Minecraft Help names Xbox Game Pass Core as the required premium online subscription for Xbox. See Minecraft Help’s multiplayer requirements.
If your friends are playing Java
Use Java Edition on a supported computer and join their Java game there. The Xbox Bedrock client cannot join a Java session. Minecraft Help states: “Java Edition players can only join Java Edition hosted games.” Minecraft Help: multiplayer requirements.
Can a workaround make Java run on Xbox?
Minecraft’s official platform information establishes Bedrock as the Xbox edition and does not provide a supported method for running Java Edition on the console. An Xbox game, accessory, or PC edition purchase does not turn the Xbox version into Java. If Java is essential, play it on a supported computer; if playing on Xbox is essential, use Bedrock.
