Nintendo Classics games can be played without an internet connection for up to seven consecutive days after your membership is verified online. The membership must stay active, and the console must reconnect to verify it at least once every seven days. Online multiplayer and cloud-streamed games still need internet.
How long can you play Nintendo Classics offline?
Nintendo says you can play games in the Nintendo Classics libraries while offline, but you must have an active membership and verify it by connecting online every seven days. The seven-day period is consecutive, so reconnect before it expires if you want to keep playing away from the internet. See Nintendo Support’s Nintendo Classics – Nintendo Switch Online Overview & FAQ.
Before a trip or other stretch without internet, open the relevant Classics app while the console is online and confirm your membership. If the seven-day verification window passes, connect the console again so it can check the membership.
Which Nintendo Switch Online games are included?
Nintendo’s US support information lists these classic-game libraries by membership tier. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack includes additional libraries; Nintendo GameCube Classics are listed for Nintendo Switch 2 only. Library availability can vary by console and change over time.

What does not work offline?
Online multiplayer
Co-op or competitive modes that connect players over a network require an internet connection. Many games require a Nintendo Switch Online membership for online play, but not all: Nintendo notes that some titles, including Fortnite, can be played online without that membership. Check the game’s product information or eShop listing for its requirements. Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online Service FAQ explains the service’s online-play requirements.

Cloud versions
A cloud version streams the game rather than running it entirely from the console. Nintendo says these games need a stable, consistent high-speed internet connection; a disrupted connection can end the session. They are not an offline option. Nintendo’s cloud-game FAQ describes availability as limited to the United States and Canada at the time of the page, so check local availability in your region: Cloud Versions of Games – FAQ.
Other downloaded games and DLC
Offline access depends on the title and how its digital license is set up. Nintendo says software loaded as a virtual game card can be played on that console without internet. With online-license settings, some software may prompt for an internet connection to verify access. A download by itself does not guarantee that every game or feature will work offline; check the title’s requirements and console setup. Nintendo’s guidance is in “Unable to connect to the Internet” Message When Starting Software.

What happens if your membership expires?
Access to the Nintendo Classics apps requires an active membership, so you cannot keep playing those games through the service after the membership ends. Nintendo says the games’ save data remains on the console and can be used again if you renew. Nintendo also says it has no plans to make the classic games available individually outside Nintendo Switch Online; see the Classics FAQ.
