With Remote Play, Portal controls the session on your PS5, so it doesn’t provide a separate game session for a second player. With Portal’s cloud streaming, one person can stream an eligible game while another uses the PS5 under a separate account—a use case PlayStation explicitly describes.

These are distinct modes. Cloud streaming sends a supported game to Portal without connecting it to your PS5 through Remote Play; it is not a way to create a second Remote Play session.

When two people want to play at once
Using Remote Play
Remote Play makes Portal a remote screen and controller for your PS5. The console remains the source of the game session. It therefore does not let one person play a different game on the PS5 while another uses Portal as an independent console session.
Using cloud streaming
PlayStation describes cloud streaming as allowing someone to play side-by-side with a friend using the PS5 under a separate account. The statement comes from Takuro Fushimi, PlayStation Senior Manager, Product Management, in the November 5, 2025 PlayStation.Blog announcement. This is a supported use case, not a promise that every game or account arrangement will work. Check that the game is eligible and available in your region.

What cloud streaming requires
- A PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
- A game supported for Portal cloud streaming. Eligible titles include selected games from PlayStation Plus catalogs and selected digital PS5 games; not every PS5 game is streamable.
- Availability is subject to country or region, and supported games and subscription features vary. See PlayStation’s cloud-streaming eligibility guidance.
Because the streamed game comes from PlayStation’s cloud service, your PS5 does not need to be the console connection for that Portal session; PlayStation says cloud streaming can continue while the PS5 is powered off.
Setting up Portal Remote Play
- Connect your PS5 to the internet, sign in to the same PlayStation account you use on Portal, and update the console software.
- On PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- To start Remote Play while the console is in Rest Mode, open the rest-mode settings and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
- Keep the PS5 online when you want Portal to connect. PlayStation recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download for Remote Play, and 15 Mbps or more for best performance. These are recommendations, not a guarantee of performance.

Compatibility limits to know
Portal Remote Play is for PS5; it is not compatible with PS4. PS5 apps in the Media tab are not supported through Portal Remote Play. PlayStation’s PS Portal compatibility guidance lists these limitations.
