Yes. On Nintendo Switch, one player can play Overcooked! 2 using a single Joy-Con held horizontally. Nintendo lists single-system play for 1–4 players and says each additional chef can take a Joy-Con.
How to set up one Joy-Con
- Detach the Joy-Con from the console if needed.
- From the HOME Menu, open Controllers, then Change Grip/Order.
- Hold the Joy-Con horizontally and press SL and SR together to register it as one player’s controller.
- Start Overcooked! 2 and join the game with that controller.
Nintendo notes that supported grip positions inside a game depend on its single-player and multiplayer options. Nintendo’s Overcooked! 2 listing specifies “Single System (1–4)” and describes chefs taking a Joy-Con each; its listing is the basis for the player count.

Which Switch modes work?
A detached Joy-Con can be used in TV mode or tabletop mode. In handheld mode, the controllers remain attached to the console, so use them attached rather than as a detached horizontal controller.
Does one Joy-Con control more than one player?
No. The single Joy-Con setup is for one player. Nintendo’s 1–4 player listing refers to the number of players supported on one system, not to multiple players sharing one Joy-Con. For multiple players, each player needs an appropriate controller setup.
