Pixelmon requires Minecraft Java Edition and Forge, while Xbox consoles use Minecraft Bedrock Edition. The supported way to play Pixelmon is on a computer running Java Edition—not through an Xbox setting, Marketplace download, or console mod installation.
Why the official Pixelmon mod does not work on Xbox
Pixelmon is a Forge mod for Minecraft Java Edition. The Pixelmon installation guide says console releases cannot run Forge mods, and the project FAQ says Pixelmon can only be used with the computer edition of Minecraft. Microsoft identifies Xbox consoles with the Bedrock edition in its Java or Bedrock edition comparison. Those are different editions, so installing Pixelmon on a computer does not make it available in the Xbox version.

A Pokémon-themed Bedrock add-on may use similar wording, but that alone does not make it the official Pixelmon mod. The official Pixelmon documentation reviewed here provides no Xbox installation method; check the project’s FAQ for its stated support.
How to play Pixelmon on a computer instead
If you have access to a compatible computer, use Minecraft Java Edition and install Pixelmon by following the project’s current installation guide. The guide covers supported launchers and client installation. Minecraft’s platform overview describes the Java & Bedrock bundle for PC; the Java edition is the part needed for Pixelmon. Buying the PC bundle does not add the mod to Xbox.

- Get Minecraft Java Edition for PC. Make sure you can launch Java Edition on the computer you plan to use.
- Choose a Pixelmon-compatible Minecraft version. Check the live compatibility table in the official installation guide rather than assuming the newest Minecraft release is supported.
- Check the requirements for that version. The guide calls for at least 2 GB of available and assignable RAM. Java requirements depend on the Minecraft release; use the requirements listed for your selected version rather than applying older Java instructions to a newer release.
- Install Pixelmon through a supported launcher. Follow the guide’s steps for the launcher and matching versions you selected, then launch the modded Java profile.
At the time covered by the guide’s version table, listed pairs included Minecraft 1.20.2 with Pixelmon 9.2.10 and Minecraft 1.20.1 with Pixelmon 9.2.3. These pairs can change, so verify the current table before installing.
