No. A PlayStation 4 cannot play an original PlayStation 2 game disc. Sony explicitly says PS2-format software cannot be played from a disc, and the PS4 does not offer backward compatibility for PS2 games. If you want to play the disc you own, you need compatible PS2 hardware; a separate PS4 release may be an option for some games.
Why a PS2 game disc will not work in a PS4
Sony’s PS4 Pro safety guide states: “PlayStation® format software, PlayStation®2 format software, and PlayStation®3 format software cannot be played from a disc.” Sony’s PS4 FAQ likewise says the console does not feature backward compatibility for PS2 games.
This is a game-software limitation, not a problem that can be solved by changing a setting or using an adapter. Sony does not identify an accessory that adds PS2 game-disc compatibility to a PS4.
Why PS4 DVD playback does not mean PS2 games work
A PS4 can play certain DVD movies, but that does not make it compatible with PS2 game discs. Movie playback and running game software are separate functions. Sony’s media-disc support page describes supported Blu-ray and DVD formats separately from unsupported game software. Sony’s safety guide also says BD/DVD playback must be enabled over the internet once.

Ways to play the game
Use a PlayStation 2 console with the original disc
If your priority is playing the physical copy you already own, a PS2 console is the direct hardware option. When buying used hardware, check the console’s condition, which cables are included, and whether it is compatible with your region and disc.
Look for a separate PS4 release
Some PS2 games were released separately for PS4. In a PlayStation Blog announcement dated December 4, 2015, Shu Yoshida announced selected PS2 games for PS4. A PS4 release is a distinct version; it does not make the original PS2 disc playable. The announcement is historical and does not establish whether any particular game is available to buy today. Check the PlayStation Store for the title and your region.
