Steam marks it Verified for Steam Deck, but that certification means the game is compatible with the handheld, not that it adds a second player. Steam lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV, while Remote Play Together is not listed.
The direct answer
There is no officially advertised co-op mode for the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake on Steam. The store listing classifies the game as Single-player. That classification applies whether you launch the game on a desktop PC, a laptop, or a Steam Deck.

The same listing identifies Steam Deck compatibility as Verified. Verified is a compatibility rating for running the game on Valve’s handheld; it is not a multiplayer entitlement and does not turn a single-player game into a two-player game. The listing concerns the remake released on Steam on January 24, 2019. It names CAPCOM as the developer and publisher. None of those credits change the multiplayer classification: the relevant feature label remains Single-player.
What “Verified” means on Steam Deck
Steam Deck verification answers a hardware-and-software compatibility question: can this Steam game run acceptably on the handheld under Valve’s verification criteria? It does not answer the separate question, “How many people can play?”

Using a Steam Deck docked to a television also does not change the game’s mode. A larger screen can improve viewing convenience, but the official listing still describes the software as single-player. The display arrangement is separate from the number of supported players.
Remote Play on Tablet and TV versus Remote Play Together
Remote Play on Tablet
This label identifies a way to stream or remotely display your game session on a tablet. The game remains the same single-player session. A tablet can serve as the screen through which that session is viewed and controlled, but the listing does not describe a second participant entering the game world.
Remote Play on TV
Remote Play on TV similarly concerns getting the session onto a television. It can be useful when you want to play from a couch or use a larger display, yet it does not establish local multiplayer. The television is an output destination, not a second player slot.
Remote Play Together
Remote Play Together is the Steam feature people often have in mind when they ask whether a friend on another PC can join a game. For the Resident Evil 2 remake, that label is not present on the official Steam listing. Because it is absent, there is no supported Steam-store indication that you can invite another person to play this title as a co-op partner.

Do not collapse these labels into one generic idea of “remote play.” Tablet and TV streaming identify where a session can be displayed or accessed. Remote Play Together would be a separate multiplayer capability, and the store page does not advertise it here.
Can another PC add a second player?
No. Installing the game on another PC does not supply a multiplayer feature that the game itself does not list. A second computer can be another place to run the same single-player release, but it is not an official networked co-op client for this title.
This remains true whether both computers are in the same home or in different locations. The hardware arrangement cannot override the game’s published mode. Two PCs, two accounts, or two controllers may provide more equipment, but none of those items is identified by Steam as a way to make the remake cooperative.

The practical result is straightforward: one person can play on the Steam Deck or on a PC, while another person may watch or take turns, but the official listing does not support both people controlling the game together.

How to check the feature status yourself
If you are looking at a different edition, an updated store page, or a future listing, verify the labels directly rather than relying on screenshots or assumptions from another game.
- Open the Steam store page for the specific Resident Evil 2 remake edition you intend to play.
- Find the page’s feature section and read the player-mode entry. For this Steam release, it says Single-player.
- Check the Steam Deck compatibility indicator. For this listing it is Verified; interpret that as device compatibility only.
- Read the Remote Play entries individually. The page lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV.
- Look specifically for a Remote Play Together label or another multiplayer designation. The official listing does not show Remote Play Together for this game.
- Confirm that the page is for the remake released January 24, 2019, rather than a different Resident Evil title or platform edition.
This check is useful because Steam feature labels are title-specific. A different game in the series may have different multiplayer support, and a streaming label on one title should not be transferred to another.

Take turns on one Steam Deck or PC
Two people can share the device by alternating control. That is a social way to experience a single-player game, but it is turn-taking rather than simultaneous co-op. Progress, input, and the active session remain those of one player at a time.

The listed tablet and television features can make it easier for another person to watch. Watching, advising, or passing the controller around is different from joining as a second in-game participant. The store listing supports the former display use, not the latter co-op interpretation.

Use another PC for a separate session
A second PC can run its own copy of the single-player game, subject to the normal ownership and system requirements for that installation. That creates two separate sessions, not one shared campaign or a networked pair. Nothing in the official feature list says that the sessions can be connected for cooperative play.
What about mods and community workarounds?
Community modifications are a separate subject from official Steam support. The available official listing does not establish whether a particular mod exists, whether it works on Steam Deck, how stable it is, or whether it supports a complete co-op experience.
For that reason, an unofficial workaround should not be presented as a guaranteed solution to this question. A modification could introduce compatibility, setup, save-data, performance, or update problems, and those conditions would not change the game’s official store classification. If you investigate community projects independently, treat their claims as unverified until you have current, title-specific evidence.

Do not infer support merely because a video shows two controllers, a remote-streaming setup, or multiple windows. Demonstrating shared access to a screen is not the same as demonstrating an officially supported second player.
Common assumptions that lead to the wrong answer
- “Verified means multiplayer-ready.” Verification concerns Steam Deck compatibility, not player count.
- “Remote Play means co-op.” The listing’s tablet and TV entries describe remote display or streaming functions; Remote Play Together is a distinct label and is not listed.
- “Two PCs must mean online co-op.” Additional hardware cannot add a mode absent from the game’s official feature list.
- “A second controller will unlock a partner.” Controllers provide input devices, not an unadvertised multiplayer system.
- “A different Resident Evil game had multiplayer, so this one does too.” Multiplayer capabilities are specific to each title and edition; check the exact Steam page.
Bottom line for Steam Deck and PC players
