No. The original Nintendo Switch does not play The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Twilight Princess HD. Nintendo says Switch is not backwards compatible with games made for older consoles, and its official pages list the HD edition for Wii U—not Switch.
Why Twilight Princess does not work on Switch
Nintendo states that “The Nintendo Switch is an all-new way to play and does not include backwards compatibility with digital or physical games designed for older consoles.” That means a Wii U disc, a Wii disc, or a GameCube disc will not run on a Nintendo Switch. A Wii U eShop purchase also does not transfer to Switch. Nintendo Support explains the transfer and compatibility limits.

Which versions of Twilight Princess are available?
| Edition | Supported platform | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess | Wii | Nintendo’s Wii product page describes controls using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. See Nintendo’s Wii product page. |
| The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess | GameCube | The original GameCube game is one of the versions on which the Wii U HD remake is based; it is not a Switch edition. Nintendo’s Twilight Princess HD manual. |
| The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD | Wii U | Nintendo describes this as an improved Wii U edition with updated visuals, controls, and gameplay. Its March 2016 announcement said it was available “only on Wii U.” Wii U product page · March 2016 announcement. |
| Any of these editions on Nintendo Switch | Not supported | Nintendo’s stated lack of backwards compatibility means none of these older-console versions plays on Switch. Nintendo Support. |
How to play it instead
Use a compatible older console and a matching version: Wii or GameCube for the original game, or Wii U for Twilight Princess HD. If you are considering a physical copy, check that the listing names the platform you own; a Wii U copy requires Wii U hardware and is not a Switch release. Stock, condition, and prices vary.
Is a Switch release announced?
The official Nintendo pages cited here list Twilight Princess HD for Wii U, and the release announcement says it was available only on Wii U. They do not establish a Nintendo Switch release. This is a statement about the official listings cited here, not a prediction about what Nintendo might release in the future.

Does the Wolf Link amiibo matter?
Nintendo says the Wolf Link amiibo unlocks a bonus challenge in the Wii U HD game. It is optional; it is not required to play Twilight Princess HD, and it does not make the game playable on Switch. Nintendo’s Wii U product page describes the bonus.
