How to start cloud gaming in ChromeOS
- Choose a service available in your region. Check its current catalog and plan terms first, especially if you want to play a particular title.
- Open the service’s supported browser route. For Xbox Cloud Gaming, Google identifies xbox.com/play. For GeForce NOW, follow the current browser instructions from the service provider; CloudGG specifically lists Chromebook and Chrome browser access in its region.
- Sign in and connect the relevant account or subscription. GeForce NOW streams supported games from connected game-store libraries. Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna offer service catalogs subject to their current subscription and regional terms.
- Connect a controller if the game calls for one. Google says controllers, mice and headsets have been tested and certified for cloud-gaming Chromebooks through its Works With Chromebook program. Check for that certification on a specific accessory listing; Google does not name a current controller model in the cited information.
- Launch a game and assess the connection. Cloud gaming streams video and sends your controls over the internet, so connection quality affects play. The historical Vortex page’s 10 Mbps recommendation applies only to its old guidance and should not be treated as a current requirement for other services.
Can you play Steam games without installing them?
With GeForce NOW, you can stream supported games associated with connected game-store libraries, including Steam, as Google describes. This is not the same as installing and running the PC game on the Chromebook, nor does owning a Steam title guarantee that it is supported by the service. Check the current GeForce NOW catalog and the game’s availability in your region.
