You can play Xbox games on a Windows PC if the game has a PC version, is included in your PC Game Pass catalog, or is an eligible digital Xbox Play Anywhere title. Some supported games can also be streamed through cloud gaming. These routes are different: a Game Pass subscription is not permanent ownership, an Xbox purchase does not always include a PC copy, and playing together across platforms depends on the individual game’s cross-play support.
What does “play Xbox games on PC” mean?
It can mean installing a native PC version, playing a game from the PC Game Pass catalog, using a qualifying Xbox Play Anywhere purchase, or streaming a supported game. Start with the exact game’s Xbox or Windows Store listing: its availability, requirements, and eligibility determine which route works.

If I own an Xbox game, can I play it on PC?
Only if the specific game qualifies for Xbox Play Anywhere or you have another form of PC access, such as a separate PC purchase or subscription listing. Owning an Xbox game does not automatically grant its PC version.
For a digital purchase, look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the game’s store listing. Xbox says eligible digital games purchased through the Xbox or Windows Store can be played on Xbox, Windows 10/11 PCs, and supported gaming handhelds at no additional game-purchase cost. For participating games, supported saves, add-ons, and achievements carry across devices. Xbox also says the same game can be signed into on only one device at a time. Check the listing for the title’s eligibility and device compatibility.
Can I play Xbox Game Pass games on PC?
Yes, PC Game Pass provides access to games in its PC catalog on Windows. It is subscription access, not permanent ownership of each game: access ends if the subscription is canceled or expires, or if the title leaves the catalog. Before subscribing or installing, check the live catalog for the game and open its detail page for hardware and operating-system requirements. Do not assume a game is included just because it is available on Xbox or appears in a different Game Pass catalog.
Can Xbox and PC players play together?
Sometimes. Cross-play is a multiplayer feature that each game must support; it is separate from cross-buy and from simply having a PC version. Xbox’s guidance is that players can play across platforms when the game supports cross-play. Xbox on PC FAQ

Check the game’s own listing or support information for cross-play availability and any account or platform restrictions. A PC version does not guarantee cross-play with Xbox, and cross-play does not mean an Xbox purchase includes the PC version.
What does a Windows PC need?
As of the Xbox requirements page checked on October 7, 2026, the Xbox PC app lists Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher, 150 MB of app storage, and a 720p display. These are app-level requirements, not a promise that every game will run well—or run at all—on every compatible computer. Individual games can require more storage and stronger hardware. Windows S mode may need to be switched off to use the Xbox PC app. Check each game’s requirements before downloading, particularly if your PC is older or has limited storage.

- Open or download the Xbox PC app and sign in.
- Search for the game, then check whether it has a PC listing, appears in your current PC Game Pass catalog, or carries the Xbox Play Anywhere badge.
- Open the game’s detail page and confirm its Windows version, storage, and hardware requirements.
- Install the game if it is available for local PC play, or check its cloud-play status and the applicable plan, region, and device if you intend to stream it.
- If you want to play with someone on Xbox, verify cross-play support for that specific game.
A controller is optional, not a general requirement. Xbox lists its Wireless Controller and partner controllers as PC accessories, but input support depends on the game; check the game listing if you want to use a gamepad. Xbox PC accessories
