You are not restarting the original live event: a Premiere gives the existing recording a scheduled, shared watch experience with a public watch page, reminders and live chat.
How to premiere an old gaming livestream
- Find the replay in YouTube Studio. Confirm that the finished livestream is available on your channel as a video. YouTube says a channel may post a replay or highlights after a livestream ends (YouTube Help: Learn about live streams).
- Start the video upload workflow. In YouTube Studio, upload the replay through the usual video flow and enter its details. In the visibility step, choose an instant Premiere or schedule it for later and select “Set as Premiere.” Follow the Studio prompts for the specific video (YouTube Help: Premiere a new video).
- Check the format and availability before promotion. YouTube says Premieres do not support Shorts, 360/VR180 content, or output above 1080p. Its help page does not give an age cutoff for an archived livestream. It also does not guarantee that every old replay can be selected, so confirm that the option appears for this video in Studio before announcing a date.
- Share the watch page. A Premiere creates a public page in advance where viewers can set reminders, comment and chat. You can be present in chat during the event; plan moderation if the audience or chat activity warrants it.
- Review the recording before it goes out. Check the VOD for rights issues, unwanted segments, audio problems and anything you would not want to republish. A Premiere does not change the rights status of its contents.
What viewers experience
A regular replay is available for viewers to watch on their own schedule. A Premiere adds a scheduled shared viewing event: viewers watch the recording together in real time, can rewind, but cannot skip ahead beyond the portion currently playing. Once the Premiere ends, the video remains a regular upload, and chat replay is available. YouTube describes Premieres as watching a new video with creators and their community in real time (YouTube Help: Learn about live streams).
Choose a Premiere when the goal is a communal watch, creator participation or a scheduled reminder-driven event. Leave the VOD as a regular upload when viewers mainly need flexible catch-up access.
Plan the event and chat
Use the advance watch page to tell viewers when the rerun starts and what it contains. YouTube recommends creator participation and moderation planning for Premieres; consider assigning moderators or using a chat moderation tool if that suits your channel (YouTube Help: Premiere a new video). Being present is optional, but a Premiere is most distinct from an ordinary VOD when the creator takes part in the shared event.

Copyright and monetization still apply
Gaming footage may include game audio, licensed music, overlays or other material with separate rights. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights, including applicable music rights (YouTube Terms of Service). Repackaging a stream as a Premiere does not clear a claim or make the content eligible for monetization.
Monetization depends on channel and content eligibility, and ads are not guaranteed to appear. Eligible creators may have access to features such as Super Chat or Super Stickers during Premieres, but a rerun itself promises no earnings (YouTube Partner Program overview; YouTube channel monetization policies). YouTube’s monetization policy page says that on July 15, 2025 it renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify its treatment of repetitive or mass-produced material; it says the reused-content policy did not change. Copyright and advertiser suitability are separate considerations. Review the actual VOD and your channel’s status rather than assuming a previously streamed video is automatically eligible.
