Yes. Without Dammon, Karlach can still reach an endgame outcome; what you lose is the documented route for repairing her infernal engine. The game’s quest reference says the repair quest fails if Dammon dies, and it lists no replacement mechanic. That does not mean his death automatically kills Karlach or decides her ending.
What Dammon’s absence means
Dammon is the infernal mechanic who handles Karlach’s engine in The Hellion’s Heart. The documented repairs use Infernal Iron: an initial upgrade may be available in Act One, with another opportunity later if Dammon survives and you can reach him. The upgrades improve the engine and provide benefits, but the quest documentation does not present them as a permanent cure. See the BG3 Wiki quest reference and its Infernal Iron item entry.
If Dammon dies—for example, during the grove raid—the BG3 Wiki’s “Forging a Heart” reference says that no other infernal mechanics are available and the quest fails. The sources cited here document no alternate NPC or process for carrying out those repairs.

What “save Karlach” can mean
It helps to separate three different goals: keeping Karlach with you during the story, completing her engine-repair quest, and reaching an ending in which she is alive. Dammon’s death closes the documented repair route; it should not be treated as proof that all three outcomes are impossible.
Larian’s official Patch 2 announcement confirms an added concluding scene for Karlach’s Avernus outcome. It also says: “Additional Karlach moments have also been added in Acts 1 and 2, allowing her to better reflect on her infernal engine and the options available to her.” The patch notes establish that the Avernus outcome exists, but do not enumerate every condition needed to reach it. They do not say that Dammon’s repairs are required for that ending.

What to do in your playthrough
- If Dammon is alive: keep any Infernal Iron you have and continue until you can reach him again. Later repair opportunities are documented when he survives; do not assume he is permanently unavailable just because you have moved on from an earlier encounter.
- If Dammon has died: treat Karlach’s documented engine-upgrade quest as closed. The cited references do not identify another mechanic who can perform the same repairs.
- When deciding Karlach’s ending: make that decision separately from the repair quest. Patch 2 confirms an Avernus conclusion, but the cited official note does not provide a complete checklist of its prerequisites.
