No—not through a normal route in Oblivion Remastered. GamesRadar reported that players have tried to stop the Mythic Dawn assassins during the opening, but the Emperor dies in ordinary play. Stories that he survives may involve a glitch, console command, or mod rather than a supported alternate outcome.
Can you stop the assassins and save Uriel Septim VII?
GamesRadar’s 2025 coverage describes players attacking the Mythic Dawn assassins as they try to protect Uriel Septim VII. The report says players can kill many of them, but that more keep appearing; it characterizes their supply as unlimited. In ordinary play, the Emperor still dies. GamesRadar’s report documents the attempts, not a normal-play route that changes the opening’s outcome.
That makes the scene a tempting target for intervention, but taking down attackers is not the same as preventing the scripted death. The coverage records players’ efforts; it does not establish that the Remastered story branches if the Emperor is kept alive.
Why do more assassins keep appearing?
GamesRadar describes the assassins as an effectively unlimited supply: killing some does not clear the opening encounter. That is the outlet’s account, not a published developer explanation of the encounter’s mechanics. The practical takeaway is that fighting them does not provide a reliable way to save the Emperor in ordinary play.

What about reports that a player saved him?
Check which game the story concerns and how the player achieved the result. A survival caused by a command, mod, or glitch is different from an outcome supported by normal play, and a character appearing alive temporarily does not by itself show that the game’s narrative flags or later story have changed.
- Oblivion Remastered: GamesRadar reports attempts to kill the assassins and says the Emperor dies in ordinary play. It frames saving him as requiring a glitch or console commands, rather than describing a verified alternate route.
- The 2006 original: PC Gamer covered a sequence break that can leave the Emperor alive, while noting that the main story continues as though he died. That report is about the original game, not evidence of a Remastered route. PC Gamer’s coverage is specifically about that original-game sequence break.
- Community anecdotes: In a Reddit discussion titled “I accidentally saved the emperor,” commenters disagree about whether control is locked during the attack; some suggest a command or mod may explain the apparent save. The thread is anecdotal and does not settle the Remastered mechanics. Read the discussion.
When assessing a claim, identify the version, method, and result: did the player use ordinary play, a mod, a console command, or a glitch; did the Emperor merely survive temporarily; and did the game actually recognize a different narrative outcome? The available reports do not verify a Remastered alternate ending.

Why are players trying anyway?
The opening presents an immediate, dramatic crisis, so players naturally try to intervene rather than watch a familiar character die. GamesRadar’s report and the Reddit thread show examples of that impulse, but they do not establish how many players have tried. Bethesda’s page describing an Emperor-saving premise belongs to The Elder Scrolls: Arena, a separate game and plot, and does not change what happens in Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda’s Arena page concerns that separate story.
