A badge is an account-tied icon shown on your profile, not a separate inventory item. You may be able to sell the trading cards used to craft it, or certain cosmetic rewards from crafting, through the Steam Community Market.
What a Steam badge is—and what it isn’t
Steam defines a badge as a profile icon tied to your account. It can represent a trading-card set you collected or participation in an event, and card badges are created by crafting a complete set. The badge is the result of that process; it is not one of the cards listed for sale.
That distinction matters if you mean an event badge or a game badge: the profile achievement itself is not the marketable item. Sale eligibility applies to specific inventory items associated with it.
Which related items can you sell?
| Item | Can it be sold? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Profile badge | No | It is tied to your Steam account and displayed on your profile. Steam’s Trading Cards FAQ distinguishes badges from the cards used to craft them. |
| Trading cards | Often, if eligible | Steam says cards can be traded or bought and sold on the Community Market. Restrictions can apply to an item or account. |
| Crafting rewards, such as emoticons and profile backgrounds | Some can be sold | Steam says certain rewards from badge crafting can be traded or sold on the Market; check the individual item’s status. |
Steam’s Sale Trading Cards & Badge FAQ also specifies a deadline for seasonal sale cards: they stop being tradable and marketable 30 days after that sale ends. That cutoff applies to those sale cards, not automatically to every Steam item.

How to check whether a card or reward is sellable
- Open your Steam inventory and select the specific card or cosmetic reward.
- Check the item’s details for its Community Market or trading eligibility. Restrictions on the item or your account can prevent a listing.
- If the item is eligible, use its Market listing option and review the listing terms before confirming.
Eligibility is item-specific, so don’t assume that every card or crafting reward can be listed. Steam’s Recommended Trading Practices also cautions users about money-related trades and deceptive purchase or trade schemes.

Community Market sales credit Steam Wallet funds, not cash. Steam’s Community Market FAQ describes Market transactions as using Steam Wallet funds, and Steam says Wallet funds cannot be transferred in trades. A Market sale therefore isn’t a direct cash payment or a way to transfer the badge to another account.
