Nintendo says digital game purchases cannot be transferred from one Nintendo Account to another, and its published guidance also prohibits selling the account that owns them. Moving your games to a replacement Switch is different: it moves your account’s access, not the individual purchase to a buyer.
Can you transfer a digital game to another Nintendo Account?
No. Nintendo Support says, “It’s not possible to transfer digital purchases from one Nintendo Account to another.” That applies to digital games and DLC purchases; the purchase remains associated with the Nintendo Account that bought it. Nintendo’s account-transfer FAQ explains the distinction.
Can you sell the Nintendo Account that owns the games?
Nintendo says, “Neither your Nintendo Account nor your Nintendo Network ID can be transferred or sold to another person.” Nintendo Support’s account-ownership FAQ sets out that policy. Nintendo UK further says that selling or transferring an account to a third party violates its Nintendo Account Agreement and that it may suspend accounts when it confirms a violation. Nintendo UK Support describes the enforcement risk. Changing the login details or handing over credentials does not make an account sale an allowed way to sell a game.
Does moving games to a new Switch transfer ownership?
No. A console migration is for the account owner moving to another system, not for transferring a game to another person. Nintendo provides steps to move an account, games, and save data between consoles; if the old console is unavailable, the owner can sign in on a new system and download their games. Nintendo’s console-transfer guide covers that process.

Can other users play games downloaded on your console?
Nintendo says downloaded content is not limited to the purchasing account in the console context described in its transfer FAQ. That can allow another user on the console to access downloaded content, but it does not make that user the owner of a transferable purchase or let you sell the game separately. What do Nintendo’s terms say about resale?
Nintendo’s Switch User Agreement describes software as licensed for personal, noncommercial use and lists offering software for sale among restricted acts. Nintendo of America’s Switch User Agreement states those conditions.

Nintendo’s US Purchase and Subscription Terms say that some software and digital content are licensed, not sold, and that products are for personal use and may not be resold for commercial purposes. The terms are marked last updated August 2026. Nintendo’s Purchase and Subscription Terms are publisher terms, not a court ruling or a complete statement of consumer law in every country. If future resale flexibility matters, check whether the specific game is available as a physical edition in your market before buying. A game card is a separate physical copy that may be resold as that copy; selling one does not make a digital copy already attached to your Nintendo Account transferable. Physical editions require the card to play, while digital games can be downloaded through the owner’s account on replacement hardware. Availability and local rules vary, and resale value is not guaranteed.
