For a shared Star Wars adventure on the couch, start with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. For two-player split-screen co-op, Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) is the more combat-focused choice—but its official listing limits that mode to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you want large online battles, compare either Battlefront game; online multiplayer is not the same as a co-op story campaign.
Which Star Wars game is best for two players?
| Game | Best fit | What the official sources establish | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | Local shared adventure, especially for families | LEGO describes kids and families joining forces and exploring together. The game covers all nine Skywalker Saga films. Its 2022 release announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. | The cited pages do not explicitly establish online co-op. Treat this as a local co-play recommendation and check the exact platform edition. |
| Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) | Two-player couch co-op on supported consoles, plus online battles | StarWars.com describes two-player offline split-screen, multiplayer battles of up to 40 players, and space combat with up to 24 players plus AI ships. | The official page says split-screen co-op is available only on PS4 and Xbox One. Online play has separate account, internet, and console-service requirements. |
| Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection | Large online battles and classic-era content | StarWars.com lists restored online play for up to 64 players and platforms including Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. | The announcement establishes online multiplayer, not a two-player co-op story campaign. Confirm current online availability and edition details. |
What kind of two-player experience do you want?
A shared adventure on one screen
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the clearest fit if you want to explore the films’ settings together in a family-friendly game. LEGO’s April 5, 2022 release announcement calls it an accessible entry point where kids and families can join forces and explore. That announcement confirms broad platform availability, but does not specify online co-op, so do not assume that two players can join remotely.
Couch co-op with combat
Choose Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) if you have a PS4 or Xbox One and want to team up locally in split-screen. StarWars.com specifically describes two-player offline split-screen and limits that feature to those consoles. A newer console or PC version should not be assumed to include this particular couch co-op mode based on that listing.
Online battles rather than a shared campaign
The two Battlefront options are relevant if the goal is large multiplayer matches. StarWars.com lists up to 40 players for Battlefront II battles and restored online play for up to 64 players in the Classic Collection. Those figures describe multiplayer scale, not the number of people who can play through a shared story. The official pages cited here do not establish an online co-op story campaign for these choices.

How to choose before you buy
- Decide whether you need co-op or multiplayer. For a shared adventure, begin with The Skywalker Saga; for couch split-screen combat, check whether you have a PS4 or Xbox One copy of Battlefront II; for online battles, compare the Battlefront games.
- Match the game to your platform. In particular, do not buy Battlefront II expecting its documented split-screen mode to work on a platform other than PS4 or Xbox One.
- Confirm the edition and current online requirements. Platform availability, online service membership, and game editions can differ. Check the store listing for your system, and confirm any console subscription needed for online play.
