Yes—Nintendo currently allows you to redownload titles you previously purchased through the Wii Shop Channel, using the console’s Titles You’ve Downloaded list. But the Wii Shop no longer sells games, and Nintendo says the remaining redownload service will end at an unspecified future date. If you still have access to the Wii and its purchase list, redownload anything you want to keep while the option is available.
How to redownload a Wii Shop game
- On the Wii Menu, open Wii Shop Channel and choose Start.
- Choose Start Shopping.
- Open Titles You’ve Downloaded.
- Select the game and choose Redownload.
Nintendo says this list shows titles purchased on that console. The instructions apply to games and other titles previously purchased or downloaded through Wii Shop Channel, not to new purchases.
Nintendo says redownloads are still available but will be discontinued at some point; it has not announced an exact date. Nintendo’s Wii redownload instructions describe the current process and the service’s uncertain end date.
What Wii Shop closure means
The Wii Shop Channel closed to new purchases on January 30, 2019. Nintendo also ended the ability to add Wii Points or redeem Points Cards on March 26, 2018. Those dates do not mean redownloads stopped at the same time: Nintendo’s current support instructions still describe redownloading previously purchased titles.

Nintendo says the Wii Shop Channel had been available on Wii systems since December 2006. Its Wii Shop discontinuation notice says the redownload option will eventually end, but does not give a date.
Wii Shop purchases and Wii U eShop purchases are different
A game bought through Wii Shop Channel belongs to the Wii Shop purchase list; it is not the same as a purchase made through Wii U eShop. Nintendo provides separate redownload instructions for deleted Wii U eShop purchases, which it says can be downloaded again at no cost. That Wii U eShop policy does not extend or guarantee continued access to Wii Shop Channel redownloads.

For a Wii U eShop purchase, use Nintendo’s Wii U eShop redownload instructions. For a Wii Shop purchase, use the Wii Shop Channel steps above or consider transferring eligible content from Wii to Wii U.
Can you transfer Wii Shop games to Wii U?
Nintendo supports transferring eligible Wii Shop content from a Wii to a Wii U with the Wii System Transfer Tool. Nintendo’s transfer information lists WiiWare and Virtual Console titles, save data, add-on content, and Wii Shop Channel account activity among the data that may transfer. Some content is excluded, so a transfer should not be treated as a guarantee that every title or item will move.

Nintendo also says the Wii-to-Wii-U transfer service will eventually be discontinued, without specifying when. The transfer is a separate option from redownloading on Wii and is not the same as buying or redownloading a Wii U eShop version. First check Titles You’ve Downloaded on the Wii associated with the purchase. Nintendo’s instructions describe the list on that console; they do not establish that a Nintendo Account can recover the Wii purchase list on any replacement Wii if the original console is lost or fails. If you cannot access the console or the title is not listed, the cited Nintendo guidance does not provide a confirmed recovery route.

Nintendo’s Wii U operations manual says software deleted or moved to an SD Card remains available for download through Wii Shop Channel on Wii or from Wii Menu on Wii U. An SD card can therefore help with storage or moving software, but it cannot restore Nintendo’s servers, create a new purchase, or resolve whether purchases can be recovered from a lost console. Consult the Nintendo Wii U operations manual for its storage guidance.
