Minecraft offers a limited Bedrock trial, and eligible Windows 10 or 11 PC owners who own one edition of Minecraft are entitled to the other. If you have no existing game entitlement, the free option is a time-limited demo—not a permanent copy.
What free options are available?
| Option | Who it applies to | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Bedrock trial | Players on supported devices listed by Minecraft: Windows 10/11, PlayStation, and Android | A limited trial of the game, not permanent ownership |
| Java-to-Bedrock entitlement | Eligible Windows 10 or 11 PC owners who already own one edition | The other edition through the Java & Bedrock Edition bundle |
| Demo | Players who do not own Minecraft | A time-limited way to try the game |
| Purchase | Players who want ongoing access and do not already qualify for the other edition | A game license for the product and platform purchased |
Minecraft’s official free-trial page lists Bedrock trials for Windows 10/11, PlayStation, and Android. Trial availability and store offers can change, so check the official page for your device.
What does the Bedrock trial include?
Minecraft describes the Bedrock and Java trials as approximately 100 minutes of in-game time—about five in-game days—with the duration varying slightly by device. You can try core Survival activities such as crafting, exploring, and combat. The trial works offline. Online multiplayer servers are disabled, although LAN multiplayer is allowed.
That makes the trial useful for seeing whether the game runs on your device or trying the basic Survival experience. It is not a way to keep playing indefinitely or to join online servers without owning the game.

Can you get Bedrock free if you own Java?
If you own Minecraft for Windows PC, Minecraft says that owning one edition entitles you to the other in the Java & Bedrock Edition bundle. The relevant scope is Windows 10 or 11 PC ownership; this does not establish a general free entitlement for console or mobile purchases. See Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock edition guide.
Use the Microsoft account associated with the purchase. Minecraft says to sign in to the launcher with that same account; the purchased game should then appear in your library. This restores access to a game you already own—it does not create a new license.

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Does a free Microsoft account give you the game?
No. A Microsoft account is required to play, but creating one does not grant a Minecraft license. If you do not own the game, Minecraft directs you to try the time-limited demo or buy it. Its account guide explains the account requirement.
Which option should you choose?
- You only want to try Minecraft: Check whether the Bedrock trial is available for your device. Expect roughly 100 in-game minutes and no online server multiplayer.
- You own one edition on a Windows 10 or 11 PC: Sign into the launcher with the Microsoft account tied to that purchase and check your library for the other edition.
- You own Minecraft on a console or mobile device: Do not assume that purchase qualifies you for a free PC or other-platform copy; the entitlement described by Minecraft is for eligible Windows PC owners.
- You want permanent access and have no license: A demo or trial is temporary, so you will need to buy the game for the platform you want to play on. Minecraft’s PC store page lists Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.
Check your friends’ edition before choosing
Bedrock supports cross-play across compatible Bedrock platforms. Java multiplayer is limited to Windows, Mac, and Linux, and Java and Bedrock players cannot join each other’s multiplayer servers. Ask which edition your friends use before buying, and confirm platform compatibility in Minecraft’s edition guide.
