Yes—but only some animals eat fish, and the right choice depends on the animal. Fish can be used when rearing certain babies, while feeding an established pet is a separate mechanic: pets do not need food to survive, but preferred foods can provide temporary benefits.
Which animals can eat fish?
There is no universal fish diet in Conan Exiles. Funcom says different animals enjoy different foods, and most do not share the same favorite. Its example: “Some animals enjoy different types of food (As an example, Kappas enjoy plant-fibers but may much prefer oysters or shellfish).” (Funcom’s pet-system overview.)

The animal taming reference lists fish options for Bear Cubs and Gorilla Infants. The accepted food and the resulting chance of a Greater pet depend on the specific food; check the current animal taming table for the animal you are rearing rather than assuming any fish will work.
How fish works when rearing a baby
For a baby that lists fish as a food, place the named fish in the appropriate animal pen. Food offered during pen rearing can influence the chance of obtaining a Greater pet. Funcom specifically says Shadespiced food improves that chance; the exact outcome depends on the animal and food listed for it. (Funcom’s Update 34 notes.)

- Look up the baby’s accepted foods in its current taming entry.
- Put one of the listed fish foods in the appropriate animal pen.
- Choose the food based on the outcome shown for that animal, including any Greater-pet chance.
Feeding an established pet is different
Once a pet is placed, food is not required for it to survive according to the current pet reference. Its preferred food can instead affect level-up attribute chances, temporarily increase strength, or heal it. A fish that is valid for rearing is not automatically the best choice for these effects: use the established pet’s listed preference and the effect you want.
Funcom’s notes describe the general mechanic this way: “While keeping your pets happy and fed they will eat any type of food that they can digest. However, feeding them their favorite snacks will grant them temporary buffs.” See the official update notes for that historical system description.

Using a feed box
A feed box can distribute its contents to nearby pets. Put food in it only after considering the diets of the pets within range; a box does not make a fish useful to an animal whose diet does not include it. The feed box reference describes its distribution function.

Funcom’s August 2018 announcement said placed pets needed food to stay alive, but the current pet reference says pets do not require food to survive. Treat that older announcement as historical context, not current starvation guidance. Likewise, the official October 2018 Update 34 notes describe the system when it launched. The detailed fish-to-animal examples come from community-maintained wiki tables, not the cited official posts.
No platform- or server-settings-specific differences are established by these references. If you need certainty for a particular version or server, check the animal’s in-game diet or a current animal-specific entry.
