Can You Still Install SuperRepo on Kodi? Historical Steps and Safe Alternatives (2026)

SuperRepo is a legacy Kodi repository with no documented compatible release for Kodi 18–21. This guide explains the old srp.nu steps, current risks, troubleshooting and safer repository choices.

Short answer: SuperRepo is no longer a dependable Kodi repository. The old http://srp.nu and version-specific ZIP procedure is useful for understanding archived tutorials, but current reports describe the site as unavailable and provide no compatible SuperRepo release for Kodi 18, 19, 20 or 21. On a current installation, use Kodi’s built-in official repository and add-ons that match your installed Kodi release.

What SuperRepo was

SuperRepo was a third-party Kodi add-on repository. It was not part of Team Kodi’s official repository system. Older guides directed users to add a SuperRepo network location, install a repository ZIP, and then browse categories of add-ons from inside Kodi.

Kodi itself is a free, open-source media player. It supports Android, Linux, macOS, iOS, Windows, Raspberry Pi, tvOS and webOS. The official Kodi download contains no media or streaming catalog; you supply your own files or install lawful add-ons. A supported Kodi platform does not make an abandoned third-party repository compatible.

SuperRepo was also not an operating system, Kodi build or streaming service. It was an index and distribution point for add-ons. Installing it never guaranteed that an add-on would work, remain online or provide legal access to a particular film, channel or service. The repository’s age matters because Kodi add-ons often depend on changing websites, APIs, certificates and playback libraries.

Can you still install SuperRepo on Kodi?

You may still be able to enter the old address or install an archived ZIP on some systems, but that is not the same as having a working SuperRepo installation. Current status reports describe the site as down or unavailable, and no compatible SuperRepo release is documented for Kodi 18, 19, 20 or 21. A saved source can remain visible in Kodi even after the server has disappeared.

If your goal is simply to install a video, music or utility add-on, start with Kodi’s official repository. If a specific legitimate developer distributes its add-on elsewhere, use that developer’s current HTTPS repository and compatibility instructions. Reproducing a historical SuperRepo tutorial should be treated as troubleshooting an old guide, not as a recommended setup.

Why the old SuperRepo method fails now

Recent status reporting describes SuperRepo as a legacy project. An August 2025 comparison reported that the SuperRepo website was down, was already extremely out of date and did not provide releases for Kodi 18, 19, 20 or 21. A September 2026 status report likewise described the old service as unavailable and warned that its archived workflow can leave modern Kodi installations with broken indexes, missing dependencies, abandoned add-ons, expired domains or insecure HTTP references.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Installing a ZIP file is only the first part of a repository installation. Kodi must still retrieve the repository index, resolve dependencies and download add-on packages that match the installed Kodi release. An old ZIP can therefore appear to install while its catalog is empty, its index cannot be fetched or every selected add-on fails during dependency resolution.

The original address, http://srp.nu, also uses plain HTTP. HTTP does not provide the transport protection that Kodi recommends for third-party repositories. Even if an old address responds, you cannot treat the response as a current, maintained or trustworthy repository.

There is another compatibility layer beyond the Kodi major number. Add-ons can require particular Python versions, media codecs, operating-system permissions or external services. A package built for an older release may open in the menu yet fail when it calls a retired API. Changing a folder name or trying several archived ZIP files does not update those dependencies.

Use Kodi’s official repository on a current installation

Kodi includes its official repository by default. Kodi’s repository documentation explains that add-ons are organized by Kodi release so that a release receives compatible packages. The add-on settings identify the Kodi Official Repository as the only trusted repository. The exact wording of a menu can vary slightly by Kodi version, but the workflow is the same.

  • Easy Setup: Access your Google account and configure the device, language and Wi-Fi network
  1. Open the add-on browser. From Kodi’s home screen, open Add-ons.
  2. Choose the repository browser. Select Install from repository.
  3. Select Kodi’s repository. Choose Kodi Add-on Repository (the label may have a minor version-specific variation).
  4. Pick a category. Browse the category that contains the type of add-on you need, such as video, music, program or service add-ons.
  5. Check the add-on information. Read its description, version and listed dependencies before installing.
  6. Install it. Select Install and allow Kodi to install the add-on and its dependencies from the official repository.
  7. Launch it from Add-ons. Return to the relevant add-on category and open the installed item. If it asks for a service account or media location, supply only details you control and are entitled to use.

This route avoids the SuperRepo source entirely. It also keeps the add-on catalog tied to the Kodi release that is running on your device, reducing the chance of an incompatible package.

If Kodi was installed from an unofficial build or modified package, menu names and available repositories may differ. Confirm the Kodi version under Settings → System information, then use the repository that corresponds to that major release. Updating Kodi from an official download can resolve missing repository metadata, but an update will not revive SuperRepo or make its old packages compatible.

If you genuinely need a third-party repository

Some legitimate developers distribute their own add-ons outside Kodi’s official repository. Kodi classifies such repositories as untrusted and says users should independently check that downloads are safe and come from a source they trust. Treat a third-party repository as a software supply-chain decision, not merely as another menu option.

  • Verify provenance. Start with the add-on developer’s own documentation or project page. Avoid a re-uploaded ZIP whose origin cannot be established.
  • Prefer HTTPS. Kodi’s repository guidance recommends SSL and warns against exposing users to malicious add-ons through insecure HTTP. Do not use an HTTP source when an HTTPS source maintained by the developer is available.
  • Confirm Kodi compatibility. Check that the repository explicitly supports your installed major Kodi release. Compatibility with an older release is not evidence that it works on your current one.
  • Check maintenance activity. Look for recent releases, working dependency links and documentation that reflects current Kodi versions. An abandoned catalog can install but still fail when it tries to fetch packages.
  • Review permissions and behavior. Read what an add-on accesses and whether its features are lawful where you live. Kodi does not verify every third-party package.
  • Keep a recovery path. Back up Kodi’s user-data folder or note your current add-ons before testing an unfamiliar repository, so you can remove it if the catalog or dependencies become unstable.

To enable a repository outside Kodi’s own catalog, Kodi may prompt you to enable Unknown sources in the add-on settings. That setting permits installation; it does not verify the repository or make its add-ons safe. Turn it on only when you have identified a legitimate source, and turn it back off afterward if you do not need it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not enter passwords, payment details or your main account credentials into an add-on merely because a repository offers it. Use the developer’s documented sign-in flow, review requested permissions and remove the add-on if it asks for access unrelated to its stated function. A repository with many listings is not automatically better than one with a small, actively maintained catalog.

The historical SuperRepo installation procedure

The following steps explain the screenshots and cached tutorials that readers still encounter. They are not a recommendation for a current Kodi setup, because the repository is obsolete and the address may be unavailable.

  1. Open Kodi’s file manager. From the home screen, open the file manager and choose Add source.
  2. Enter the old location. Enter http://srp.nu as the location. When Kodi asks for a media-source name, enter SuperRepo.
  3. Return to the add-on browser. Go back to the home screen, open Add-ons and select the add-on browser.
  4. Choose ZIP installation. Select Install from ZIP file. If Kodi asks you to enable unknown sources, the setting must be enabled before a non-official ZIP can be installed.
  5. Open the source. Select the SuperRepo source you created, then open the folder matching your Kodi codename.
  6. Select the repository ZIP. Choose the repository ZIP that the old guide specifies for that Kodi codename. Kodi may show a notification if it accepts the ZIP.
  7. Browse the repository. If the installation appears to succeed, choose Install from repository, open the SuperRepo entry and browse its categories.

On a present-day system, the process commonly stops at the source, ZIP, index or dependency stage. A successful notification after step six does not prove that SuperRepo has a functioning catalog or that any listed add-on supports your Kodi release.

Those archived instructions also assume that the ZIP is genuine and unmodified. A mirror, forum attachment or repackaged “fixed” ZIP can contain files unrelated to the original repository. If you are examining an old tutorial for historical reasons, do not download replacement files from an unknown mirror simply because the original address no longer responds.

Compatibility by Kodi release

Kodi release SuperRepo status reported for the release Recommended source
Kodi 18 No compatible SuperRepo release documented Kodi Official Repository and add-ons marked for the installed release
Kodi 19 No compatible SuperRepo release documented Kodi Official Repository and add-ons marked for the installed release
Kodi 20 No compatible SuperRepo release documented Kodi Official Repository and add-ons marked for the installed release
Kodi 21 No compatible SuperRepo release documented Kodi Official Repository and add-ons marked for the installed release

The table does not mean that every official add-on works on every Kodi build. It means Kodi’s official repository organizes packages by release, while no current SuperRepo release is documented for these four major versions.

If you are running an older Kodi installation for a specific hardware or plug-in requirement, do not assume that an old SuperRepo package is the safest answer. An unsupported Kodi release can have its own security and dependency limitations. Check whether the add-on developer supports that release, and consider upgrading only after confirming that your device and existing library are backed up.

Troubleshoot common SuperRepo messages

“Could not connect to network server” or a timeout

First check whether you entered http://srp.nu exactly as shown in the old guide. If the address still times out or returns an error, that is consistent with current reports that the SuperRepo site is down or unavailable. Repeating the installation will not restore a retired server. Remove the dead source from Kodi’s file manager and use Install from repository → Kodi Add-on Repository instead.

The SuperRepo source is visible, but it contains no files

A saved source is only a label and location; it is not proof that a repository is online. A source can remain listed after its server disappears. Delete the source, restart Kodi if the file manager continues to display stale entries, and install compatible add-ons from the official repository.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The ZIP installs, but the repository index is empty

This usually means Kodi accepted the local ZIP but cannot retrieve the catalog or its metadata. Check the repository’s maintenance status and Kodi-version support rather than trying several old ZIP files. For SuperRepo, the documented lack of releases for Kodi 18 through 21 makes an empty or broken index expected on a modern installation.

An add-on reports missing dependencies

Dependencies are separate packages that Kodi must download and install. An abandoned repository may reference files that were removed, moved to an expired domain or built for another Kodi release. Remove the failed add-on, clear the obsolete repository source and find a maintained, release-compatible version in Kodi’s official repository or from the legitimate developer.

Kodi asks to enable unknown sources

Kodi displays this prompt because a ZIP outside the official repository is considered an unknown source. Enabling the setting allows installation but provides no safety guarantee. If you are following an old SuperRepo guide, cancel the operation instead of weakening the setting for an unavailable repository. For a verified developer repository, enable it only for the installation, verify the source and disable it again when finished.

The add-on installs but crashes or does not show content

Installation and operation are different tests. An add-on can install while its service endpoint, dependency or API is abandoned. Confirm that the add-on is maintained for your Kodi major version and that it provides lawful access to content. If it came from SuperRepo, uninstall it and any leftover dependencies, then use a current package from Kodi’s official repository where one exists.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A tutorial says to choose a different Kodi codename

Older SuperRepo guides used a folder named for the Kodi codename. Selecting a different codename can install packages built for another release, leading to dependency failures or crashes. Do not use a mismatched folder as a workaround. Choose an add-on explicitly marked for the Kodi release installed on your device.

How to remove an obsolete SuperRepo setup

  1. Open Add-ons and select My add-ons or the installed-repository view available in your Kodi version.
  2. Open the SuperRepo repository entry, choose Uninstall and confirm.
  3. Return to Kodi’s file manager, highlight the SuperRepo source and remove it.
  4. Review installed add-ons for items that came only from SuperRepo. Uninstall abandoned items you no longer use.
  5. Reopen Install from repository and verify that the Kodi Official Repository remains available.
  6. If Kodi still shows stale errors, restart the application. Do not delete Kodi’s entire profile unless you have backed up settings and understand that a full reset removes add-ons and configuration.

If an add-on was installed from SuperRepo but is still needed, look for the same project’s official current distribution before removing it. Do not assume that a similarly named add-on from an unrelated repository is the same software. Record your settings first, because uninstalling a repository can also remove or disable add-ons that depended on it.

Choosing a repository: a practical checklist

Check What a good result looks like
Provenance The repository is published or documented by the add-on’s developer.
Kodi compatibility The repository identifies support for the major Kodi release installed on your device.
Maintenance Recent packages, working dependency links and documentation match current Kodi releases.
Transport security The source uses HTTPS rather than an unprotected HTTP address.
Dependency health Dependencies resolve from active, verifiable locations.
Content legality The add-on offers content or services you are legally entitled to access.

Do not rank repositories only by the number of add-ons they advertise. A smaller, maintained repository with clear provenance and current dependencies is safer and more useful than a large abandoned catalog.

Before installing, check the project’s release notes and issue tracker for reports affecting your Kodi version. Confirm that the download uses the developer’s domain, that the certificate is valid and that the repository explains how to uninstall it. These checks take less time than recovering from a broken profile or replacing credentials entered into an untrusted add-on.

What happened to srp.nu?

The address was the location used by historical SuperRepo instructions. Current reporting in 2025 and 2026 describes the site as down or unavailable and the repository as legacy software. There is no documented current SuperRepo release for Kodi 18, 19, 20 or 21. That explains why modern users see connection failures, empty indexes and dependency errors when they reproduce archived instructions.

Kodi’s own repository remains the practical starting point because it is included by default and its catalog is organized around Kodi releases. If the official repository does not contain the function you need, look for a maintained, HTTPS-based repository from the legitimate developer rather than reviving SuperRepo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still install SuperRepo on Kodi?

You may be able to add the old source or install an archived ZIP, but current reports describe SuperRepo as unavailable and obsolete. There is no documented compatible release for Kodi 18, 19, 20 or 21, so installation is unlikely to produce a working catalog.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happened to srp.nu?

The srp.nu address used by historical tutorials is reported as down or unavailable. A source can remain saved in Kodi after its server disappears, which explains timeouts and empty folders.

Which repository works with Kodi 21?

Use Kodi’s built-in Kodi Add-on Repository for official packages. For a legitimate third-party project, use the developer’s maintained HTTPS repository only when it explicitly supports Kodi 21.

Why does Kodi say it cannot connect to SuperRepo?

The old server may be offline, expired or unable to provide a current index. Check the address once, then remove the dead source instead of repeatedly installing archived ZIP files.

Is SuperRepo part of Kodi?

No. SuperRepo was a third-party repository. Kodi identifies its own official repository as the only trusted repository and warns that outside repositories require independent safety checks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does enabling Unknown sources make SuperRepo safe?

No. Unknown sources only permits Kodi to install a ZIP outside the official repository. It does not verify the publisher, protect the connection or make abandoned add-ons compatible.

Can changing the Kodi codename folder fix installation?

No. Choosing a different codename can install packages built for another release and cause missing dependencies or crashes. Use an add-on explicitly compatible with your installed Kodi version.

Should I reset Kodi because SuperRepo errors remain?

Usually not. Remove the SuperRepo repository and file source, uninstall abandoned add-ons and restart Kodi. Back up your profile before considering a full reset, because a reset removes settings and installed add-ons.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: SuperRepo and srp.nu are legacy infrastructure, not a dependable way to install add-ons on Kodi 18–21. The old source-and-ZIP steps explain archived guides but do not provide a working, secure repository today. Use Install from repository → Kodi Add-on Repository first; if you need a third-party project, verify its developer, HTTPS transport, maintenance and Kodi compatibility before enabling Unknown sources.
