Usually, yes. If you bought the game digitally on the PlayStation account you still use, it should remain in that account’s Game Library even after the title leaves the PlayStation Store. If you own a physical copy, you can generally keep playing it on a compatible PS4 or on a PS5 with a disc drive.
Delisting only answers whether new customers can buy the game from that storefront. It does not by itself tell you whether your license is available, whether a disc edition works on your console, whether a PS5 upgrade exists, or whether multiplayer servers are still operating.

What “delisted” means on PlayStation
A delisted game has been removed from sale in a particular PlayStation Store region or storefront. New customers may no longer be able to purchase it there. That is different from removing a game from every previous buyer’s account.

Sony’s support guidance says games purchased from PlayStation Store appear in the purchaser’s Game Library. That supports redownloading an outright digital purchase after delisting, but it is not a promise that every title will remain downloadable forever. Licenses, regional storefronts, platform support and publisher decisions can change. Treat the purchase entitlement, the console’s compatibility and the game’s online services as separate checks.

Choose the route that matches how you obtained the game

If you bought the game digitally
Start by proving which account owns the license. A delisted title will not necessarily appear in a new Store search, but a purchased title should be associated with the account that completed the transaction.
- Sign in to the purchasing account. If several people use the console, switch users and check each account. A game bought by a different account will not become an outright purchase on yours merely because it was installed on the console.
- Open Game Library. On the account that made the purchase, look through the purchased games rather than relying on the Store’s current search results.
- Check transaction history. Confirm that the transaction was an outright purchase and identify the exact edition or add-on. This separates a purchase from a trial, a subscription entitlement or an order that was refunded or never completed.
- Check for a lock icon. A locked game can indicate that the console is signed into the wrong account, the license has not synchronized, sharing settings changed, or the title came from a subscription that is no longer active.
- Restore licenses. On PS5, use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Sony says this process does not affect saved data.
- Check sharing and activation. On PS5, review Console Sharing and Offline Play on the owning account. On PS4, check whether that account’s console is activated as its primary PS4. If the owner changed consoles or disabled sharing, another user may lose access even though the owner still has the purchase.
- Download from the library. Once the entitlement is recognized, start the download from Game Library. If the game has separate PS4 and PS5 entries, select the edition you actually own.
If the transaction is visible but the game remains locked after restoring licenses, the problem is an entitlement or account issue rather than proof that delisting erased the purchase. Keep the transaction details available when contacting PlayStation Support. No general rule can guarantee that every delisted license will remain available indefinitely.
PlayStation Plus is not the same as buying the game
A game obtained through PlayStation Plus is playable only while the relevant benefit remains valid. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance says the subscription must be active for subscription games and advises checking whether a catalog title is still available. A game leaving the Plus catalog can therefore produce a lock even though the title still appears in your library.

- the account that claimed or downloaded the game is the account currently signed in;
- the required PlayStation Plus subscription is active; and
- the specific game is still part of the applicable catalog or benefit.
Do not describe a monthly or catalog download as permanent ownership unless you separately purchased it. If you later buy the game outright, that purchase is a different entitlement and should be checked through transaction history.
If you own a physical PS4 copy
A physical copy is not dependent on the game remaining listed for sale. On PS4, insert the compatible disc and launch the installed game. On PS5, the disc route works only with a PS5 model that has a disc drive and only when the particular PS4 game is supported.
Sony says the overwhelming majority of the more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles. That statement is not “every PS4 game works”: Sony also identifies PS4-only titles, and its exception list can change. Check the exact game before buying a used disc.

- Disc-drive PS5: Insert the PS4 disc, install the game and leave the disc inserted whenever you play. The disc acts as proof of ownership.
- PS5 Digital Edition: It has no disc drive, so it cannot read or validate a PS4 game disc.
- Compatibility: Confirm the title is not marked PS4-only and check whether particular PS4 functions are unavailable on PS5.
- Edition and region: Verify that the disc is the edition you need and that any upgrade or entitlement rules apply to its region.
A disc can preserve the offline game while online features remain unavailable. Physical ownership does not reactivate a publisher’s servers or create a digital license for a console without a drive.

Can a delisted PS4 game receive a PS5 version?
Sometimes. A delisting does not automatically cancel a PS5 upgrade, but it also does not create one. Eligibility, price and availability are set on a game-by-game basis and may be time-limited.
Digital PS4 purchases
An outright digital PS4 purchase may show an upgrade offer when the publisher and Sony have enabled one. Check the game hub or Store listing while signed into the owning account. The offer may be free, paid or unavailable, and the PS4 and PS5 versions can have different content or save-transfer rules.
Disc-based upgrades
A disc-based upgrade requires a PS5 with a disc drive. You must keep the original PS4 disc inserted each time you play the upgraded PS5 version, because the disc remains the ownership check. A PS5 Digital Edition cannot use this route.

PS4 games redeemed as a PlayStation Plus benefit are not eligible for an upgrade unless Sony or the publisher specifically says otherwise. Do not assume that an upgrade available to an outright purchaser also applies to a Plus catalog copy.

Delisting and server shutdowns are different problems
A game can be delisted while its servers continue running, or its servers can shut down while an installed game remains playable offline. The Store listing does not establish the current status of multiplayer, leaderboards, user-generated content, authentication or other online-dependent features.
Check the specific game’s official service notice for the functions that are ending and the effective date. A server shutdown can remove online features while leaving the offline campaign or local modes available. Conversely, a game that starts with an online authentication check may become unusable even if its files remain installed. A retained digital license or a physical disc cannot restore a service that the publisher has discontinued.

“I bought it, but it is not in my library”
- Confirm the current user is the account that paid for the game.
- Review transaction history for the title, edition and purchase status.
- Search Game Library, not only the Store.
- Restore licenses using the PS4 or PS5 path above.
- Check whether the purchase was refunded, bundled under another account or replaced by a separate edition.
“There is a padlock on the game”
First distinguish an outright purchase from a PlayStation Plus entitlement. For a purchase, verify the owning account, restore licenses and review Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or primary-console activation on PS4. For Plus access, confirm the subscription and catalog status before treating the lock as a delisting issue.
“The disc works on PS4 but not PS5”
Check that the PS5 has a disc drive, that the disc is inserted correctly, and that the title is not on Sony’s PS4-only list. Make sure the disc remains inserted after installation. If the console is a Digital Edition, no software setting can make it read a physical PS4 disc.

“I can launch it, but multiplayer no longer works”
Look for the game-specific server notice. Delisting, license access and server operation are separate. Offline portions may continue to work after online services end, but server-dependent modes cannot be repaired through license restoration.
What to verify before buying a used copy
A used disc is a practical fallback only when the game had a physical release. Confirm all of the following before paying:
- the exact PS4 edition and region;
- whether the game is supported on your PS5 model;
- whether your console has a disc drive;
- whether the game requires a server for the modes you want;
- whether a PS5 upgrade exists, what it costs and whether the disc must remain inserted; and
- whether required patches or downloadable content are still obtainable.
Inventory, regional editions and online-service status can change, so verify the title-specific details rather than assuming that every delisted game had a disc release or an upgrade path.

If you bought a delisted game outright, sign into the purchasing account and check Game Library and transaction history first. Restore licenses if it is locked, then check sharing or primary-console settings. If access came through PlayStation Plus, verify the subscription and catalog listing instead of treating it as ownership. If you have a disc, use a PS4 or a compatible PS5 with a disc drive, and keep the disc inserted on PS5. Finally, check the individual game’s compatibility, upgrade terms and server notice: those details determine what you can actually play today.
